Been in the truckin industry starting out in logging trucks and moving into regional and finally OTR. Total of 43 years associated with trucking. I am now a Tech Advisor for Go Green Fleet Solutions. They have an APU unit they recommend that runs on propane and does it all Cooling/heat/power, for around 6 grand. I don’t know if it is considered a violation of posting rules to tell you this because I do contract work for them . If it is a violation, I apologize and will not do it again.

APU have to do a couple of things, 1. the price is crazy for what they are actually supplying, the size and weight. Just dont see it , they all thought they would swoop in and clean up. Im glad to see driver or O/O not running out and falling for this over prices junk.

THAT is a nice set up. And I've seen a lot of do it yourself jobs.

Yours is one of, if not the cleanest I've seen.

The biggest problem I see with this Shepherd is the use of propane. You can get gasoline on any street corner, you can plumb your diesel powered APU/Generator into an existing fuel tank but propane is not as convenient to access. Yes you can find it # Home Depot and such but who wants to mess with the parking lots and cars? The thought of carrying a second tank doesn't interest me either.

Shepherd, I see too many negatives (IMHO) and not enough positives in your unit.

Just about every truck plaza, walmart, etc has an exchange station for fresh full tanks. The unit is about half the cost of most with excellent warranty, ease of service, just two hundred pounds mounts in a variety of configurations with no frame modifications, is very quiet, (you can stand beside it and carry on a normal conversation) non polluting. We have a program as an educational company aimed at reducing pollution, fuel cost and raising driver comfort. This program is available to anyone with a credit score of 630 automatically qualifying you for up to thirty five grand in SBA, low interest loan, which will net the average operater nearly an extra grand a month take home in fuel and maintenance savings after making the monthly pmt of around $200.00 and this, while positioning them to be part of the EPA Smart Way programs, affording the best freight rates and preferential treatment from Smart Way Certified shippers and load boards.
This program was put together with the independent OO and small fleet operator in mind. If you have ten trucks that translates to an extra eight to ten grand a month in income. You know, the money that goes home with you for your families. If you are a struggling owner operator, or small fleet, this program has no match in the industry. Check out go green fleet solutions on the net. You will find some amazing stuff whether you are a seasoned pro or newbie.

There's no more expensive way to purchase propane than by the cylinder. It would be like buying gasolone or diesel for $5.00 a gallon.

Still not seeing the benefits out weighing the negatives BUT you are doing a tremendous job of plugging your APU/Generator for free!
