In my years of driving I only refuse to go to one place and that is Quebec. Anywhere but Quebec, I will go to Manhattan to deliver to Rockfeller Center before Quebec.

Aaah, Quebec: ramps designed for Smart Cars, signage in French, substandard roads with minimal plowing in winter... what's not to like? BWAHAHA!!! :biggrin_25523: But some of the women are pretty, I can tell ya that much...

F them. We used to wait for the weigh station to close so we could sneak in and out before the frogs got an idea.

I tell people I used to dislike the French until I went to Quebec

Whoa, just went back a page to catch up on the posts and caught a line by Zuma which could be interpreted more than one way... :biggrin_25523:

Tell me again, WHEN'S THE LAST TIME YA BLINDSIDED A HOLE IN THE LOWER BRONX??!

    And was that a 53' WAGON??? Or just a 48'? Possibly a 45' or 40' flatbed? A 26' pup trailer? Just curious... :biggrin_25523:

    Pourquoi pas?

City driving can be a challenge. First time I was sent to London, UK I was terrified. I refused. The dispatcher said, "Oh, come on, you'll have to go there eventually." so I went. It was the third time I'd driven a truck and I had a dozen deliveries deep into the city. Since then I've delivered to many cities in Europe and North America, and I'll pass on some advice my father gave to me. He was a trucker for years before I started. There is one vehicle in front, one behind, and a maximum of one each side. It's no different to anywhere else, but it helps to know where you are and where you are going. Throw away the GPS; it'll confuse you. Rely on the maps, because they have the real info that you can see immediately. Buy some little plastic arrows and stick them to your map at critical points along your route, so that you can quickly refer to it at traffic lights etc. Don't let car drivers panic you, and consider getting out and whacking aggressive taxi drivers with your cheater bar. It'll make you feel real good. (That was a joke, btw)

One other thing. If you are driving down a road, and there are no other trucks AT ALL; PANIC. After missing a turn in London one day, I ended up driving a semi across Westminster Bridge, right next to the Houses of Parliament. At the time, it wasn't unusual to attempt to blow up European politicians with high explosives in trailers. I'm surprised I made it.

Think ya confused my posts with somebody else; I just had some comments about mapreading as a way to get around.
