Doesn't matter. 100 miles or 100,000,000 miles. I would start shopping around for better quotes although $8,200 doesn't sound bad for 3 years driving.

$8,200 is a bit much. I think you should be paying much less. But honestly it depends on your garaging location. If you are in a high risk state, FL, NY, CA, CT etc. you may be actually getting a great deal.
-
As for $8,200 it is a little high though vlad has a point about particular states....have you had any claims or tickets? If yes then $8,200 may be fair, if not then definitely shop around ( Try Northland ). Even South Florida trucks on Northland run around $7,000 I believe. For Virginia where it looks like your from I would estimate if you are claims free and no tickets w/ a 53' Dry Van all in ( Liability, PD, Cargo ) should be around $6,000. Maybe $6,500 for a Reefer. Hope this helps!

I agree that $6,500 will be about right. I have heard of some sites that have an automated calculator that can give you an indication of your truck insurance. Try looking for one. If anyone knows of something like it please post it on here.

Not sure about sites that have calculators and if they do they are more than likely just estimates that would not factor your MVR into the rate. On one truck outfits that are starting out an insurance company has little idea of your track record however they obviously check out your MVR. Keep in mind quoting an 18 wheeler isnt like quoting a car on Progressive - there is a little more that goes into it. The quote is made up of atleast three different parts and mine has a few more coverages added on by my choice. AL or Auto Liability is the most expensive part. Physical Damage is always a percentage of the value that you insure ( Tractor + Trailer = $45,000 ) take $45,000 x 2.5% and that portion would = $1125 per year. You can always adjust your deductible up to $2,500 or $5,000 on that part and the rate charged goes down. Cargo is more than likely the least expensive part of most policies - mine is $750 w/ no exclusions on Northland. ( Dry Van ) The additional coverages that I added on are General Liability as a few companies want to see it and it is more protection that was basically thrown in for another $100 and Hired & Non Owned Auto was the other which basically covers me or my driver using there personal auto for company business ( post office run, parts store run ) if there is an accident and either myself or my driver is at fault should the other party sue me and attach my company to the suit b/c it was company business I will be protected. How do I know all this - b/c I do insurance for trucking companies as a licensed agent. Doing the insurance is what caused me to go out and by a rig and hire a driver on the side.
Back to the calculator question - just ask me and I can typically ballpark what a policy costs as I can look at this the way an insurance company does and see what there thoughts are. Hope this helps! -
you should be able to get cheaper then that what coverages are included in that 8200 are you leased on or using your own authority

can someone pm me with some good and cheap places to get good insurance rates? new o/o getting lic. back gave them up a long time ago maybe taking on a buddy that has 12yrs. over road? thanks

Ha ha, that's funny. This isn't like shopping Walmart or Kmart. You need to find out who insures in your state and get on the phone with quotes. Mine is $5,200 per year. My friend in the same town is $11,000 with the same insurance company.

meathead it was just a ? no big deal maybe you should let your friend know who you are with to help him save some money..
