County government. We only use the interstate for hauling material from rock quarries or to run a machine to a shop for repairs. I guess that's why we are exempt.
Question regarding experience.

Right, but if you start driving where you need to log, you are supposed to then log all time, including your hours there.
Not just driving hours either, all work hours.TnTrucker88 Thanks this. -
If I had side work, it would only be 3 to 4 hours per day. They close the gates for unloading grain at 8 pm. We only work 40 hours a week. I assume that would give me 30 hours of drive time if they wanted to get technical with the 70 hours.
I'm looking at changing jobs completely, though.KMac Thanks this. -
Yup, that's the way it is supposed to work.

I work for the Postal Service and we're Federal. Don't know what you guys make, but we make pretty good money. Maybe switch from one government job for anouther.
-
I may look into that as well. Are you talking pickup and delivery from hubs to different towns?

Hi Tn, I don't want to discourage you, or anyone from trying to move up. I spent my whole working life trucking, and I've ( and several other old farts here), seen a LOT of changes, mostly in the last, say 15 years. Trucking is a good job, I did ok, never bought any new cars, but raised a family, had a house, but there people doing a lot less and making a lot more than me ( not sure they were enjoying it like I was though) but it's a different job today, and highly over-rated, because of the driver shortage. Can't tell you how many times, people come on this site with high hopes, only to be dashed 6 months later, because they realized they made a mistake. If you are going to do this, be prepared, there are a LOT of shysters out there. I have a friend that with as many years as I have, just got screwed by a seemingly good company. Best place to get information on a company is here. Because we're mostly all drivers, and we've been there. Good luck, and you came to the right place. I'd have killed for site like this 30 years ago.

The job is very cushy. We got drivers over 70 years old. There's potential to make almost $100 an hour here. And now that all TTO positions are career, if you ever landed a job at USPS, it's a job that you can fully enjoy and retire with.Last edited: Aug 9, 2016
