It is common to see trucks parked overnight with the tarps on the ground with the front wheel parked on top of them over here.

I could not hold the money out of his check because I did not have definitive proof. I did however terminate the driver. I cannot afford to continue to buy tarps. I will be getting boxes as soon as possible.

Better be careful about deducting charges for theft from an employee. In some states that is not legal. You can suspend or fire the employee, even file charges, but not make any deductions. Check out Oregon state labor laws for example.

yep.....think I would be handing the dude his walking papers. Sounds like he doesn't wanna tarp, then tarps come up missing, sounds suspicious to me.

All my drivers are responsible for the gear on there truck in 10 years I have never had anything come up missing all my trailers have boxes and enclosed racks on the trucks yes drivers loose #### I had a driver tarp a load of hay last summer and was over 14ft4" and took the tarps out he just changed it out with one of the other drivers I knew better
I myself have paid for chains binders and straps from drivers chain and binder for $25 how can you say no

Not saying the driver did not do something with the tarps, but then you as the owner of the truck failed to provide adequate security for your equipment.

Even if he did do something with the tarps you as the owner need to cover security of assets and let the security on the road be cautioned. I have been driving for a long while and have had things taken, most times off the load itself so it is not impossible to believe the tarps were taken.

Never had a tarp stolen, but I took an old heavy canvas tarp and had a bag made with two layers showing holes.
Then I roll my new Cordura tarps up, slide them in the bag and strap it down. Nobody would give you 2 dollars for the bag.
Serves to protect tarps two ways, 1 from thieves 2 from abrasion while riding.

The company I work for makes us purchase our own equipment ahead of time. A way to make you take care of your own property. If we leave the company we have the option to sell the equipment back to the company.
