I have had it nice. I don't drive steady, Its choice, often hauling my own stuff instate. Known places, easy docks/plenty of room......
Did a couple OTR trips and though they had nasty docks but nothing like many talked about.
So my question is. Why with all the regulations/hoops/ permits.... we have to go thru. Why is there not some rules regarding loading docks/ areas??? Or at least a rating system.
Such as. Cat 1. docks at least 3' apart, tar/cement surface (mostly level) with lines painted on surface showing "lanes" for each door. At least 120' cement/tar from building with at least 20' of gravel beyond (or 140' tar/cement) Basicly the easiest dock you normally see.
Then the Cat 10. Where you have to have folks move parked cars on street, stop traffic, blind back with less then a foot (on both sides) to muddy hole/dock. (after you drive down streets no truck with trailer should EVER go on )...
I do hate more regulations... But its a safety issue.

What would it change, we would still have to bump them either way?
Red Hot Mess Thanks this. -
Personally doesn't bother me. Worked 20 years as LTL and I have hit some docks made for the old days of trucking 40' trailers and now they put 53's in there. Nothing better then having a pain in the butt dock and feeling accomplished when you slam it in.Or to go into a receiver and they tell you we only have one door open and one guy waiting in front of you for another to open because he can not get in it. Then you cut line and put yours in and he looks at you with mouth dropped wide open. Yes I am bragging and it feels good pat my self on the back . Just don't tell me it can't be done because then it is on. I have embarrassed myself on the easiest of docks and have great job thrown at me for others. But if you don't try you won't know.Besides I grew up with my dad always saying " Cant never could ,until try came along". Ok done rambling.........

I understand whats there is there. It just seems often that there is no thought to where/how to put loading docks. I have picked up stuff with pickup and I look at loading dock/visualize how I would back in. Then say "If they would have put that backup gen set for power failure over 20' it would really give more room. Or dumpster on other side... Then to have a rating scale of hardness. Folks could demand more $$$ based on it. Then future docks would be designed better.
