No muffler? I see big dogs with no muffler every day. Maybe you need dual 6 inch straights. Thought the turbo worked as a spark arrester and a muffler was not required for those year models.
Well you did say Ohio. Is it still 55 for trucks? Seemed it took 3 days to get across that state last time.
Exhaust work can be more time consuming and challenging than it looks. You know the muffler should stand up behind the cab. How much would you have to buy to mount that? An old school bean can muffler is cheap, $90? The multi bend pipes that connect them to the engine are crazy expensive. Probably not even available for your truck. Normally fab them myself.
Some guys around here put straights on back in the day ( 90's ). Then some installed a shorty ( small muffler or resinator ) after the flex pipe behind the turbo somewhere. Easy to install. They were kind of popular for a while. Some said the engine preformed better with a little back pressure.

Fmcsa section 393.81 for horns. States only “A” horn is needed and does not specify it has to be city horn. It also has no specification on allowed decibel levels.
City horns were optional on trucks for years if they had air honkers. My ‘51, ‘67, ‘72, ‘73, and ‘85 never came with city horns.

Also. There are lots of trucks being built nowadays without air honkers and only city horns. Never heard anyone getting a warning or ticket for only having one horn in that case.

Interesting: I will look that up. This is a good place to learn.

my ‘67 Pete orginally had a 335 and my uncle ordered it new. It was built with duel straight pipes and no mufflers because of the turbo. Order number sheet “build sheet” from Pete even says that on it.

D9429426-7EB6-4D30-AA87-61F363A54460.jpeg This is something I found on the muffler issue. I knew mufflers were not required on a turbocharged engine they were optional and most manufacturers didnt really make them standard until the late ‘70’s. Dot always wanted to make it seem illegal to not have them. Well looks like up until November 19, 2010 it wasn’t. Assuming the usual gooberment grandfathering clause that always goes with this kinda thing anything built before that date should be exempt and can be loud and proud.
I do find the date interesting on how it coincides with the def fluid emissions time line.

I'll unzip them when I get home. I forgot you'd have to download them, then unzip them to view them

You do need the city horn believe it or not.

Don't forget a cover plate for that airhorn up top so the snow, rain etc does not clog it.

If the truck did not get built with mufflers then don't bother with it. Have a build sheet for it to prove it never had mufflers installed at factory.

I intensely dislike the increasing regulating or making illegal things that were simply not a problem long ago.
