Hey Wooly, depends where you work. When I had my union job, ANY infraction was a chargeable. We had a guy run over a curb with his trailer tire, bent the rim, and ,of course, blew the tire, and he had to go in front of "the board" and he didn't get his bonus, as they deemed it an unsafe maneuver.
Question....why....

Dinomite Thanks this. -
I find all of this is true. But MY opinion is, we have taught people WHAT to think, but not HOW to think for so long now, that "thinking things thru" is a foreign concept to most under 30 nowadays.
SORRY, but when I'm driving, I have to pay attention and THINK THINGS THRU.
NO school teach's you anything but how to pass the test anymore. I don't care WHAT you go to school for.
And to top it all off, I can crash my car 10,000 times and not get hurt.
I could go on. But, wheres the THINKING anymore? Why should I THINK about whats a mile from here? Why should I THINK about those trucks all parked in a row? Why should I THINK about why all those tail lights are coming on ahead of me? A trucks just a big car isn't it??? And so what if I hit something, It can't POSSIBLY be MY fault. After all, my "smartphone" said to come this way!!
We haven't (as a nation) taught our kids HOW to think and we're now suprised that they CAN'T think. "We see these bits on shows like "Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel" and the people are just bumbleing idiots and we all laugh. But we see the stupidity every day. And it's not funny anymore. These people have high school diplomas and college degrees and can't answer BASIC questions. It's like was previously said. We didn't have all this technology a mere 30 years ago, at least not on a mass scale, and we all seemed to get around just fine. We actually had to THINK things thru.
Just MY opinion and a factor as I see it.91B20H8, TLeaHeart, Nightwind8830 and 3 others Thank this. -
I think it is how we take things today, a lack of seriousness to most of what we do while at the same time overkill in the prevention department.
What I mean is watch how parents act with their kids, many of them become helicopter parents and hover over the kids when they even do simple things like play with their toys. This has been going on for well over 30 years so expecting someone in their 30's to have any kid experience driving or being around some of the things many of us did. It isn't that they don't have freedom to do things but they seem to miss out on life lessons, which one of them is to learn. -
I feel a lot of it is is that drivers dont care.. They take no personal pridein themselves or their job.. why should a driver care if he/sheis just going to be witha company for 3 months, 6 months.. that is the advice we give out to all new drivers.. your company sucks, just stickit out 3months.. 6 months and leave... well, a driver who is just sticking it out for 3 months, 6 months, or evena year is not going to care...
I also think drivers take little to no responsibility for their bad work ethics...and we support it. Whenwe just tell them over and over itis the company's fault not theirs...
If as a driver you do not like driving in the sea of stupidity...then quit letting stupid drivers off the hook... call them out on it...Dinomite Thanks this. -
Ya Patty stop taking up for people who put def in the fuel tank, and people who make mechanic you tube video's since you told him to strand that K&B truck in the not so nice part of Detroit. Wrench hard get paid is what I always say

Hello Tony,
I have investigated numerous accidents/incidents and have found a majority of the time it was simply inatention but not always on the part of the trucker. In the 10 years I have been investigating these occurances nearly 85% of the traffic incidents, minor and major, have been due to the inattention of the 4 wheeled driver. The only time I could find irrefutable fault with the trucker was in fixed object collisions, still caused to inattention.
Now, what caused the inattention to the task at hand (driving)... numerous reasons from personal issues to eating/drinking while driving but mostly, the invention of the smart phone and all of its amazing capabilities.rank, Tonythetruckerdude, Joetro and 1 other person Thank this. -
A few years ago you could get away with an accident. Now the insurance companies decide who drives.

One thing that I believe is overlooked in all the hubbub about crashes is the simple fact that there are more trucks on the road, driving more miles than ever before. What I would be interest in, would be to see a study of crashes vs miles driven today, compared to say 1960. I think it would be pretty self evident.
bigjoel, Joetro and Tonythetruckerdude Thank this. -
Well I think old known factors come in to play like driver fatigue, improper or no pre trip, etc.
As well as new factors like improper training, schools spitting out drivers like an assembly line instead of assuring they can properly control the vehicle, only caring about enough training to pass the tests. Just because you can pass the tests doesnt make you a good driver. Then you have complacency from the more experienced drivers "I can drive faster in bad conditions cause ive been driving for 18 years". Then you have high school kids being taught to drive big rigs when they can barely drive a car.
