My husband went to Stevens in March, due to some paperwork issues, he was sent home and was supposed to return a week later. Before he left his start date was 3/14/12. The Monday he was to get paid there was no check. After speaking with Stevens, they said he wasn't gonna get paid because they had changed his start date to when he was to return. I received in the mail today a notice from his unemployment that Stevens said his start date was 3/14. How would I go about proving he was never employed by stevens according to them? Thanks for any help or advice.

a recording of the conversation is legal if at least one party to the conversation knows of the recording - if husband was in any way "on the clock" at Stevens then there it seems - in my opinion - that employment whether as contractor or for-wage may be said to have occured at the instant husband was in any way "on the clock" at Stevens ~ whether payment is delayed should not color "employment" as a test for some other juris at commerce = non-disclosure by Stevens & Public Assistance is based on several bias matters on which one may not comment correctly in public fora ( plural of forum )
see if you can get one or both to write you a letter stating status of case ~ if missive from Stevens will state that husband was never clocked in that is one approach and another is to write Public Assistance a well worded letter on best paper you can find stating facts as best you know and send it Registered to Public Assistance to a named Case Officer that has worked the case. -
I think you may be screwed there. but on my unemployment stuff it says you can still get unemployment as long as the pay you got does not equal the pay you were getting for example: if you got $400 a week on unemployment and you got hired somewhere and your first check was $300 you could still file and get the other $100 difference. I hope that helps.

I suspect this was a case of things crossing in the mail.
Apparently your husband notified unemployment he was starting at Stevens onn 3/14
Unemployment takes that at face value. They don't verify.
Go back to unemployment, explain the situation and they will (should) verify that with Stevens, then issue you a check for that time.
Depending on your state, they may issue the check right away and wait for verification or they may require the verifying to come back first.
