I am on a dedicated run now, but most of my time has been in truckload. They do have a voluntary two week deal, but never keep anybody out against their will.
The miles and the sitting come in go with the business, like anywhere else. When freight was really up, 3000+ weeks were possible, but you might come dragging in Saturday, instead of Friday.
During the lean times, I was getting 1800-2000. Layover pay isn't great: $50 if you move less than 50 miles in a 24 hour period.
But if you are broke down or in the shop, they pay $14 PH after 2 hours.
They really pay detention pay if you have to wait more than 2 hours at shipper/reciever. The minimum is $14, but I have gotten as much as $70, depending on the contract they have with the customer. But those seem the places that never keep you over very long.
You are in a good spot to get a lot of Petco out of Braselton. A lot of the guys don't like it, but I never minded.
It's drop and hook at the shipper and usually multiple drops. A lot of night deliveries when it's easier to get in the shopping centers.
It is occasionally driver assist, but not always. That consists or dragging off pallets with a jack, no breakdown.
It's not a perfect company, but I am as happy here as I have been anywhere else and plan on retiring here.
The money could be better, but I like my overall situation enough to live with it.
Nearly impossible to do better in my area and I live 3 miles from the yard.J-money Thanks this. -
Oh, something else. I'm sure your recruiter told you this, but they are serious about the dress code and uniforms.
This was a big turn off for me at first, having been an owner operator and working for outlaw companies so many years.
After a while I didn't mind anymore, or maybe I got brainwashed some.
Anyway, I kind of like not being embarrassed at a customer by some sloppy driver.
And you do seem to get treated better at some customers. They know who you are before they even look at the bills.J-money Thanks this. -
Thanks so much for the info....if you think of anything else feel free to post it

I just noticed where you are from.
Will you be working out of Macon? -
Yes I will be why did you ask? I called and had the webcam interview moved to Macon also.
-
I hope to get to Averritt one day, surely my patience will be rewarded

Graphic Packaging is a big customer in your area. Plant in Macon and warehouse in Perry.
Both are drop and hook and have some good loads. Sometimes Macon ships five loads a day to Lumberton NC.
Being on I-75 is a good spot to get home easily. There is a lot of north/south Florida freight coming through.J-money Thanks this. -
O great!!! I am glad to hear that..thanks for the info my interview is at 4pm so Im about to start getting ready.

Do you have hazmat?
They will hire you without it, but it is helpful to have it.
Otherwise you won't get any of the terminal to terminal LTL loads.
They are rarely hazmat, but sometimes may have just one pallet or drum of hazmat that is added at the last minute.
So they never assign a non hazmat driver to those loads.
It's gravy. Atlanta to Dallas, Nashville to Miami, etc.
