That is an interesting question that I don't have an answer for.
I have seen a couple of guys with a medical exemption though.
When I got out of the Army in 1980 I said I would never unwillingly shave again, and stuck to that for almost 27 years.
Like I said, it was a culture shock for me coming here with the beard and uniform regulations. Not to mention the slow trucks.
I almost didn't last three months, but stuck it out for some reason. I'm glad I did now.
Not for everyone I know but has turned out to be a good fit for me.
I live three miles from the yard and have yet to miss a weekend. Will be three years next month.

I did a webcam interview with them yesterday, hopefully hear something to day. I love close to their Bowling Green yard, and their Cookeville HQ is only about an hour away, so I am in a prime location.
-
I do know that Cookeville drivers seem to get more miles than most.
If you made it to the webcam interview, I'd say you are pretty much in.
Unlike some companies, Averitt does all the background checking BEFORE orientation.
I was with Heartland in the mid 90s and they waited until we showed up for orientation and half the class was let go before it was over with.
I think that's wrong to let a man quit his last job and travel to orientation because he thought he was promised a job, only to get the rug pulled out like that. -
My current employer pretty much screwed me out of my job with Averitt.
Back in April I was accused of hitting a sign at a consignee, I know I didn't didn't hit the sign but what can you do. I disputed with Star but they still took my safety bonus even tho I had to submit a hand written letter stating my case.
I was assured everything was taken care of, until Averitt recruiter called and told me that Star has me listed as having a single preventable accident causing property damage. It's not listed on my DAC report but was in with the employment verification info.
So that put the kibosh on things with Averitt. I'm still looking to switch companies but I don't plan on quitting until I have something set in stone. -
Sorry to hear that man. At least you still have your current job.
Never know, maybe something better will come along. -
I got an app in with a small outfit in Florida called LCT that runs nothing but reefers 48 state, I heard some good things about them. They are supposed to be calling me back monday.
Figure might as well get hooked up with a decent company and grab some reefer experience. Never hurts to get more experience under your belt. -
Hi MUSTANGGT,
Have you heard anything about Averitt's city routes? I talked to a Jim Peak in Burbank, Illinois. He described three different pay scales on runs to Rock Island. He stated you needed to do this run until a city job opened up around mid summer.
thanks

It sounds like he he talking about a cartage run, which I always thought paid hourly if less than 450 miles.
I rarely get north of KY and friday was the first time I have been in the Chicago area in over a year.
So I'm afraid I can't be of much help up there. I pulled this off our web site. This is probably what he is refering to.
Combo is a catchall LTL position which is a stepping stone to full time city or shuttle.
Combo F/TBurbank, IL
A Combination (Combo) driver's responsibilities vary depending on the current need at our Service Centers. They may be asked to shuttle freight to other Averitt facilities or deliver freight locally. Combo drivers could also work on the dock and assist with loading our customer's valuable cargo.
Whatever it may be, our Combo drivers are flexible and enjoy the ... More InfoToby Thanks this. -

I am kind of interested in this position. However, even though I am considering a change from my current company,he said I could probably work my way into a P&D position by the first part of summer. I guess my concern is that I would do the combo, work the summer and be laid off in the winter. How is the company doing overall. In this economy, would that be a likely scenario. I am just wondering because I need to call and set up my interview.
Thanks

The following is from this week's newsletter. Things have picked up across the board, but I have no way of predicting the future as far as next year or even next quarter.
That's your call. Things are looking good lately, but who knows if the whole industry takes a dump again.
I don't know anybody up there, but it would probably help if you could talk to one of the drivers up there.
Did you know...?
- that across our LTL, truckload and supply chain fleets, our team hauled 1,018,257 shipments in the first three months of 2010?
- that in March alone, we hauled 391,825 shipments?
- that compared to March 2009, this represents an increase of nearly 3,000 shipments?
