Wow, that sounds like a sucky situation. Can't believe companies are getting away without paying people, even if they're students.

Maybe he can give someone 20 bucks to use their laptop at a truck stop, or better yet, find a Maverick driver that has one... I bet he'd let you use his if your hubby put him down as his reference! I know I would lol... Maybe Keep us up to date where he's at, and one of us on here can help him if we're nearby...?

Let some guy use my laptop so he can apply for a job and potentially make me $500 in the process? Sure, no problem. I'd even buy the guy a meal if needed at that point. Worth 10 bucks and an hour of my time to make it happen.

This kind of attitude is exactly why Maverick drivers rock. We're awesome. Seriously... You know how you see those flatbed guys out there securing and tarping their loads on a hot day, and they look really wet? They're literally dripping awesome all over the place. That's just how we roll.

    ;)

You guys are awesome! I told him if he ever sees a Maverick truck at a truck stop to find the driver and say hello, but he makes runs from Utah to New Mexico, Colorado. Do Maverick trucks go that far west? He'd definitely use whoever helped him as a reference!

Well just talked to another recruiter. He won't be accepted at Maverick. It'll be about 2 years before he can apply here. He got fired from his last job because they said he had missed too many days and Caleb said any termination had to be at least a year old and he has to work for a company at least a year. So I will scour other places. He might be able to get on with a local farmer hauling grain but that will only be seasonal so I don't think that would work to fill the 1 year requirement. Any other good companies he might get hired on at? I doubt I can find a company as good as maverick, but anything is better than CRE and he already said there's no way he's staying with them a year. Bummed but life goes on.

He should just stick it out at CRE. he's already there and a year is not that long.

Neither he nor I want to only see each other once or twice a month for the next year. CRE is a terrible company and he just wants to get out as soon as his license comes in.

I'm sorry to hear that :-(

For new drivers, you might check into Prime. They used to have a really nasty reputation, but apparently they recently overhauled their student program, and they are now starting new drivers out at a pay rate that is at least equal to Maverick, if not a bit higher. Their equipment is pretty nice, the only big negative I see is it appears their trucks are governed at 55mph, which would drive me nuts.

Be aware though that if your husband switches jobs several times, it could kill off his chances at Maverick. They're very picky on who they hire and their background. I'd hate to work for CRE myself, so even though it might be the best option to stay there career wise, I know that's an awful lot of suffering to go through.

Probably the best option, if he wants to leave CRE, is to find a local job or something, and then reapply with Maverick after his termination is a year old, and just come in as a student. He'll have to go out with a trainer, but its probably a faster way than starting a new job and then waiting a whole year for experience. Better to go local or whatever, keep his CDL, then apply once that old job is a year past, and come in as a student. He'll only have to do 3-4 weeks with a trainer then, and then he'll be solo, and he'll be making nearly as much as an experienced driver within 6 months.

Whichever way you guys go, good luck!

Thank you Captain. There are several big farmers around but that would just be seasonal, about 6-8 months out of the year. Whichever job he gets after CRE he will have to stick with it at least for a year if he wants to apply at maverick later on. I have had no luck finding a trucking company that accepts people with little experience, offers decent hometime AND has good reviews. Most want at least 3 months OTR experience. I am checking with UPS Freight but I have heard bad things about them too and I will check with pepsi, Coca-Cola and other places. Any company I come across I use these boards to get opinions and read what others had to say about them. I do not want him to leave CRE just to get another job that is just as bad. The plus side to CRE, he likes his trainer, his trainer has been there for 4 years so he knows what he's doing. I think it is just absurd that CRE has Phase 2 trainers who just got THEIR license a few months ago. Kinda scary lol. I'd want my trainer to be an old pro, not a trainer who has just a little more experience than me. Maybe that's the norm, just seems odd. And hubby is getting to drive a lot and will experience driving through snowy conditions in CO tonight. Good thing he's from Maine where they have winter, almost winter, and for a couple weeks they have what could pass for summer lol.
