Well, some may jump on me for this suggestion, but it could work... Swift has a flatbed division, and they seem to keep them busy. I know one of their flatbed drivers, see him regularly because he runs the same acct that I do. He is happy with them and has been there quite awhile. He gets home on most weekends. That could be an avenue worth looking into. A couple of years there doing flatbed, then try Maverick again. There is also TMC, Melton, Boyd, McElroy, Buddy Moore, and Howard that run flatbeds, but I have no idea if they would say something similar to what Maverick has told you.

I started with swift flatbed but two years is unnecessary, I did one year at swift and went to lonestar. Her hubby should probably just suck it up and do the one year at CRE to get a solid base but sounds like that's not going to happen.

How is U.S Xpress? I don't think they have flatbed but they are based in Chatanooga TN and say they welcome new CDL grads and offer weekly hometime. I had checked into Melton but they had some bad reviews. U.S Xpress' website doesn't really go into much detail about the requirements but I will email a recruiter and find out more. No, one year at CRE is not gonna happen. Have already been burned by them enough and from what I've heard you have to pretty well do teams to make any money at it. If he can get on at a company where he makes good money, and is home just about every weekend, and the people in charge don't try to always screw him over, why shouldn't he take it? lol

Very true! I've heard that Marten is a really good company to work for, but I'm pretty sure they don't have flatbeds. Dunno if they hire new guys or not though.

Also have him check with Rohel. They do have flatbeds, and I've heard good things about them too. I know they hire new grads because they called me twice after I started at Maverick, knowing how new I was. If I hadn't gone with Maverick, they would've been one of my top choices as well.

USXpress is a no-go...too many bad things about them. From what I read on their board many people had issues with things not working on their truck, truck breaking down all the time, etc. So I checked out TMC. They do flatbed, and their program and benefits sound a LOT like Maverick. They have a lot of good reviews. I'm waiting to hear back regarding all their requirements and their trucks are gorgeous! Hoping this company works out.

Check into them thoroughly. I've met an awful lot of ex-TMC drivers at our terminal.

Oh I am checking them out! I have been reading a lot from other people on the TMC board here and waiting to hear from somebody. I do not want him stuck with another bad company. Lots of great things about them though, very few negative things. Most drivers seem to get home every weekend unless ask to stay out longer.

Hubby had a choice between TMC and Maverick. After talking to many TMC drivers very very glad he went with Maverick. Apparently they pay more attention to having clean trucks then repairing them.
