Questions about May Trucking?

I know I wish you the best of luck, and am sorry your May experience turned out the way it did.
I hope this works out for you, but I'm a realist, and can tell you that 99% of the time these scenarios you just described never work out...read up on here. The 'fresh-out-of-school-n00b getting hired by the small fleet guy' usually turns into the 'can anyone in the (insert desolate town here) area give me lift back home? The guy I was working for screwed me, and owes me (insert random 4 or 5 digit number here) miles worth of back pay...

 

I'm considering the following:

KLLM
May Trucking
Prime Inc.
Roehl
Stevens
Watkins-Shepard

What's your experience in comparing May Trucking to the rest of the list? How do they measure up?

 

stevens maybe the best training company out there, but with that being said you will not be on your own making decent money for almost 6 months
what division if Roehl?
Prime is ranked ahead of only Swift and Werner
Watkins is a good company
Can't say much about KLLM
I'd say May or Watkins

 

Watkins-Shepard if I recall will only do an orientation and then put you in your own truck right away. No time with a mentor/trainer at all. Being winter now, that might change your mind.

 

Roehl - reefers

Stevens - 5 days orientation, then 5 weeks out with a trainer, then home for 5 days and then 3 weeks out with a "finisher".

Watkins does a 10 day orientation then you're in your own truck on your own, so that's probably not a great option for me, especially not in the winter.

KLLM - you can't say much about them because you're not familiar with them, or you don't like them?

Prime Inc. - I was wondering about them. But I applied based on a suggestion from someone else. They weren't originally on my like.

 

Just talked with a guy last week in TX who works for Stevenns who said his training was more like 4 months...
Not sure on Roehl Reefer, just know a few things about the flatbed side
A lot of positives are said about Watkins, but yeah...NOT a good time of year to get in, if that's their program
KLLM - don't know much about them...
Prime...Just another finance company who happens to move some fright occasionally (they make 10x more on their 'lease purchases' than their freight) whoever suggested them should NOT get a Christmas card this year...they are NOT your friend

 

Well, the Stevens recruiter told me today that you go in for 4 days orientation, then get on a truck for 5 weeks, then you have 5 days at home before you go out with your "finisher" for 3 weeks.

As for Prime, at least the guy did warn me about the lease/purchase thing.

BTW, I wasn't disagreeing with you, just telling you what the Steven recruiter told me.

One thing that I didn't like about the Stevens recruiter was that she seemed as if she was just regurgitating information with little regard to learning anything about me personally, very informative, but not very personal.

My May recruiter, on the other hand was very personable and seemed to treat me as an individual rather than just another call she had to make to spout out info.

So, if I get into May, I'll be working/training out of the Pensacola terminal. Anyone on here from that terminal? Any trainers?

I hope I get someone like you or Efon as my trainer and not "texting guy"!!

Do they put new guys in decent equipment to start?

I think I want to run 48 since I don't have any real hometime requitements. How are the miles?

With the exception of the "texting trainer" most everything I've seen so far on May Trucking has been positive!

They may have just become my #1 choice!! I hope I get the opportunity to go to orientation to find out more!
