What is the fuel surcharge? I'm assuming this isn't something a a company driver has to worry about, just O/O's?
-
Fuel Sur Charge is what Shippers/Recievers have to pay to Brooker the load (It all gets passed down to the consumers at the Stores). Company drivers don't get the Fuel Sur Charge (FSC) as they don't pay for the Fuel.
FSC is calculated from when Diesel was $1.20 a Gallon at 6 mpg .. So if Fuel average is $4.00 a Gallon: $4.00 - $1.20 = $2.80 --> $2.80 divided by 6 = $0.466 ..... that $0.46 gets added to each mile driven. so if yer Base rate is $0.95 per mile. Go get you $0.95 + $0.46 = $1.41 per mile.Rogerthat Thanks this. -
So if ya drive 120,000 miles a year (thats only 2307 per week) that would Gross you $169,200 a year. Even if you had expenses of 100K .. you would still Gross 69K.

Thanks Paloma.

Does May give you the whole surcharge they get?
If I'm doing the math right and you are getting paid (loaded miles) $1.41 per mile with surcharge, at 6.5 miles per gallon, that's almost $74,000 in fuel cost alone on the $169,200 gross you projected.
That leaves $95,000 to cover truck payment, insurance, fees to the feds, the state, tires, brakes, maintenance and breakdown related issues? Let alone health insurance, a pension plan on yourself, etc.
That's peanuts.platinum Thanks this. -
and that didn't even including taxes to Uncle Sam or your or own medical.
