I am a little confused about having a permit prior to starting training. I see that Millis has a training program at a cost of $2500. Are you saying I will have to go to a school in my home state at a cost of about $6000 before i can go to training with Millis? Thanks for any help and info you can provide.

you need to go to your BMV and get a permit. It will probably consist of some multiple choice questions just like any driver permit test. The cost of the training program is a little weird to understand. The total is $5000 plus hotel. You pay $500 up front before class. $100 of it due before they will reserve you a spot. Then you bring the other $400 with you to class. Then after class you get in a truck with a trainer where you begin to pay back the money at $20 a week plus $10 more if you stayed at the hotel. After a year of working for Millis they forgive $2500 of the original $5000. leaving you about $960 left to pay back which will continue at the $20 a week. this is $5000-$500(paid originally) - $2500(the forgiven amount) -$1040($20x52 weeks) = $960.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks samurai for explaining that. It makes sense that they would have you take the written test in your home state to receive your permit. But how about the road test, can you test out of state for that and receive your cdl or do you have to test in your home state for that as well? Also, do you know if they will let a person pay the $2500 up front and just be done with it instead of taking money out of every pay to cover the cost? Thanks again for your help.

U take the road test in ur home state as well. You will set up an appt and they will get u there with ur trainer to take it. You can pay the 2500 all up front just ask recruiting if you would pay it all at the school or mail a check in.

Why would you pay it upfront? It's an interest free loan!

Yeah. Just put the cash in an interest bearing account and let Millis deduct the few bucks a week from you're pay. At the end, you'll have a nice lump of cash. You can always pay the loan early. Remember, you can't beat interest free!

good luck on finding an account that pays a good lump of money on 2000 dollars in a couple of years. lucky if you find 1 % of return. but with that being said 1% is better than 0%.
