I also see your profile says a student or is it wrong. My point is if your a student make sure your lack of experience won't keep you from getting leased on where you want also which company are you looking to lease on to. And if your not a student but an experienced driver disreard the student comment. Either way Good Luck and i hope your successful. And where'd you but your truck from if you don't mind.

If I get plates from the company we save the NC 3% taxes?
That depend on where you register it at, if the company you are are going to lease to is in a state with no sales tax you can have them register it and plate it for you this is what I did when i started then all you have to do is wait 6 month and transfer it to NC and that will save you the $1000 tax fee Its not 3% on commercial vehicles
If we pay for the plates from the company do we keep them if we leave?
No you will have to turn them back in to the company when you leave because they will be registered to the company in your name
If we get NC 80k lbs plates its 1200 is each year is that the same in most states?
My plates cost $1289.62 the first year for all 48
my new truck... Congrad on you new truck now get out there and make some money Good Luck

if he buys his own plates, does he run the company insurance or get his own

The thing you gotta remember is, a plate needs re-newing yearly. If you are leasing on with a company and plan to leave 8 months later, then pay for it yourself. If you plan to stay a year, it makes no difference who pays, other than the company will do a weekly deduct until paid. Technically, the company owns the plate if they buy it, and will re-sell it to another driver if you bail before the year is up. If you lease on and get your plate thru the company, it may expire in 3 months anyway, that's if they are re-selling you a plate from a driver that quit. And also, they are suppose to refund you any un-used portion if you quit before a year AND they re-sell the plate, since they can't make additional money by re-selling the plate over and over. But of course, you don't know what they're doing in their office after you quit. They may have 10 plates sitting in the drawer because thay don't have enough lease driver hiring on. Moral of the story ? Buy your own plate, if you can scrape up the Denaro !

Does the owner of the plate have to file his own IFTA?
-
No, you can file or the company might. Usually the company does, however you pay any additional fee.
-
yes/no it's up to him
-
not at usx, they keep track of it and if i owe any at the end if the 1/4 they just take it out of my check
-
So the company buys the plate that you pay for and they keep that doesn't make sense but what if they take it out weekly and when it's time for renewel you go buy your own are you then responseable for you ifta? Or anything else for that matter? Is it cheaper to get your own insurance for the truck or go through the company you are leasesed to?
