I’ve been tossed into a slip seat 4 axle truck and a 4 axle 55 ton rgn. This is just temporary while my normal truck is in the shop. We don’t have steady enough work to keep this truck busy but do occasionally book loads for this truck when the money’s right.

Anyway my question is what state split out the pusher axle from the drive group? This truck has a 5’ spread from axle 2-3, and a 4’6” spread from axle 3-4. The lift axle is set up on common air with the drive axle suspension.

The issue is the drives and pusher are not splitting weight equally. Wyoming weighed my pusher at 11,000 and the drives together at 37,500. According to the two air gauges on the dash both are between 60 and 70 psi with the pusher being the higher reading.

Where will this be an issue? Would a say 1” thick shim above the lift axle airbag help even the weight out?

    Here’s the scale ticket E82151FE-6406-4796-A24E-9B8C18FA1657.jpeg
And here’s a picture of the offending setup. I didn’t load the truck and trailer, this load is honestly two light for this setup. The fifth wheel should also be farther forward in my opinion but permits were already issued. F6B5DA5D-DBA9-4A5D-BBA1-7F9A96F79216.jpeg
    Thanks in advance.

Does the lift axle have a regulator valve? If not does it have a proportioning valve ( if it were running a California inspection report to allow it into California as a 4 axle)?

    It would look like this….

It has been inspected for califorina, let’s just say it surely Doesn’t have a regulator, that would be non-compliant. ;)

But if it did have a regulator, which it doesn’t, the switch that doesn’t exist is set to bypass said non existent regulator.

As for a proportioning valve, I will look for one, but I haven’t noticed one.

I can't answer your question regarding other states. Wyoming always weighs ours separately as well as they only allow 55K on a set of tandems - 65K on a tridem on permits without having to call Cheyenne, so they check to make sure we are not over the 55k on the drives.

We are not tied into the driver suspension (would be pretty tough as it is non-air ride walking beam), so we have a regulator outside the cab to regulate pressure. We do have a switch with which to lift the axle in the cab, and it automatically lifts when in reverse.

if you have a proportioning valve - you dial it up same as with a regulator vis the set screw on the bottom.

if not - I would in bypass the non existent regulator

IL does about weigh the drive axles and a lot of states want you in the +- 10% range across the 3 axles

OK wrote me my one and only overweight ticket for just that kind of issue / not enough weight on the pusher but under the axle group weight limit.

I've found,,"pusher axles" don't push anything. Sorry, can't help, but I'm sure they'd call in reinforcements to help find a violation. I hope you are getting filthy rich hauling this stuff, always seemed like a giant PITA to me.

    Yes

to get full purple bonus weight - dual tires

they will give some weight on a single but it must be at least a 445

I have not spent a lot of time figuring it out as it does not apply for me
