Questions about Schneider.

Asking questions is a good thing. Picking a company to work for as your first driving job is an important decision. If you end up with a bad company as your first job you could see a side of the industry that will make you hate it and never wish to return.

There are much worse places to start out driving than SNI.

 

They have started installing sensors in trucks for idling purposes. I would find a company with APU's. Schneider used to be good. But Don died. Bean counters in control now. I started out in a cabover back in 2000. Then moved up into condo's. Things have changed. For the worse.

 

If you choose Schneider, I highly recommend tanker. They start at $.. 37CPM.

 

After four and a half months at Schneider, I say get you experience and head to a better job. That's exact what I'm going to do. This company has good intents, but hire dummies as DBLs.

 

Few more questions:

I understand Schneider is pretty much exclusive to Freightliner. Which models are they currently transitioning to (if they are)?

Do their trucks come with APUs (axillary power units) or is that still a premium feature? ***EDIT: My mistake. I didn't read the thread entirely and noticed the post where their trucks do not have APUs.

Any additional tips on how to reduce engine idles, if APUs are not available?

I'm single and have no kids, so I'm pretty much willing to save money and just live in a company truck for the first few years. Recommended? Or should I at least have a place to rent between shifts?

Also, how forgiving are they if you go over miles? Say there was an accident on the ramp you needed to take but had to instead drive another 5 miles up the road to turn around and come back, is this knocked against you?

 

They allow you up to 10% of miles driven for Out Of Route miles. So on a 500 mile run you can go OOR for 50 miles.

 

Sadwar I am on active duty in the Army and I am getting out in about 9 months. Did you use Schneider's Military Appreticeship Program? I am trying to find more information on that, I am looking at another company that will train. Schneider has had a good reputation for a long time and I am also thinking about starting here.

 

This program is the only way we can afford to work here making what they pay us. It's backed up on the VA side it's taking 3+months to start receiving your payments last I heard. It's a good company to train with though decent equipment average miles to cut your teeth on.

 

Thanks Sal I am also looking at Prime I have heard good and bad about them, more good unless they lease. How much do you make under the program if I might ask?
