What year and model did you wind up with? How many miles? Was your check light because you had slow freight or did your check get hit with deductions for stuff like "mandatory TMC bunkheaters"? Good luck FirNa!

A couple of years ago TMC had quality pay for any new driver for the first six weeks. If you didn't make $600.00 TMC would make up the difference. I never had to use it. I realize the economy is down since then so it would be really handy right now. I guess they did away with it.

My truck is a 2007 379, they say you have a choice but most will get a 379. Mine has about 360,000 miles on it. Check yours out good before leaving as I was missing a lots of stuff and had a few issues with the truck that needed to be taken care of.
As for my check I had 4 runs my first week so I guess it was slow but sure didn't feel like it doing everything on my own for the first time,,lol. Plus only 1 of the loads paid decent, $700+ . I think thats a decent load I don't know I am still new. I did have a $1200 run this week so that will help my pay i guess. -
I bought a decent digital camera today for exactly this kind of thing, getting documentation of the condition the gear I get is in. Especially trailers, which seem to get swapped out weekly. I plan on giving the truck a good thorough inspection, hopefully there are no serious problems. Are you on percentage? And where does your percentage start at out of the gate? I was honestly thinking of going mileage myself, but that has a lot to do with my trainer being on mileage and me not knowing what percentage paid for most loads. Also being paid for ALL bounce miles is a pretty good incentive these days.

I got to Des Moines at 3am today, got on the bus at 6 and filled out paperwork, took a quiz and took the road and yard test today. Passed everything and I'm leaving in a half hour at 2300 for Indy to pick up my truck. There were only 4 of us filling out paperwork and testing out today, everyone passed pretty easily except for the veteran who didn't have to take the behind the wheel tests, I believe he took them a few weeks ago at orientation. Anyhow, I'm officially done with orientation and training and once I pick my truck up and go over it in Indy I'll be out on the road solo with everyone else. I'm considering a TMC diary thread where I would discuss like this thread my loads, miles and the days events but it is kind of a hassle sometimes keeping it updated. I think now that I'm going out solo I might find personal time management to be a little easier because I'll be working off of a single schedule. A big thank you to my trainer who was pretty patient and did a real good job teaching me logging. Anyhow, until next time. Oh yeah, I selected mileage but my FM thinks I should be on % and looking at it I think he might be right. Mileage starts out at 30 cpm and only moves 2 cpm in the first year plus a possible 2-3 for bonuses. The % starts out at 23 and after your first snapshot (6 weeks in my case, TMC needs to get itself a little extra you know) your % is not really based on time of service at all. Again though, I know if I take % I'm gonna be pissed about bounce miles. What to do.

Cpl,
Way to go on getting through your training and getting your truck. I have enjoyed reading your posts and find them very helpful and informative. If you have the time, I would like to see you post up a "diary".
I started CDL school Monday night and am enjoying it. I am still active duty, but it was better for me to start school now. My primary interest lies with flatbedding and your posts are with the effort to me.
Drive safe and best of luck to you.

I also have enjoyed your thread. I'm glad I glad I found it. Spoke with a young lady name Lisa # TMC for employment verification. I had to send her five years of verifiable employment history. That part is done. Now on to step two. ??? Reading your post of your training was very informative. Thanks a lot and 5* to you. Good luck to and keep us posted.
