Going to truck driving School in Florida presently. I have a number of offers on the table and I am still trying to decide. My question is this: What are some "must haves" when I pick a company and ship off to training period? I know clothes, how much to pack? Laptop? cooler? How much crap is too much? Any advice is appreciated.
Questions about training.

Take a sleeping bag and a pillow; no sheets.
If you're with a trainer, you can roll up the sleeping bag and stow it away when the trainer is in the bunk.
I never used sheets my whole career; always used an over sized sleeping bag.
Yes, take the laptop. Don't get a cooler until you go solo driver.
Thermos
Travel coffee mug -
Less is better till you get in your own truck. 1 backpack should hold everything except bag n pillow

Yeah, consider you will be leaving your house with your stuff, getting on a bus, getting off a bus, getting on a shuttle, getting off a shuttle going into the motel, checking out of the motel 3 days later, waiting for a trainer at the terminal (with you stuff stashed under the stairwell) possibly going back to the motel because trainer is a no show, Getting on and off the shuttle again and sooner or later finally getting on a truck and then possibly getting on another truck because your trainer quit or went home. The point I'm trying to make is travel light until you're finally in your own truck. Trying to move 3 suitcases a sleeping bag and a cooler won't be fun.

Don't forget, the Orientation Dinner is Black Tie....so bring your tuxedo!
Puppage, thelushlarry, pattyj and 2 others Thank this. -
Forget the cooler, your trainer has limited space in his or trk.Laptop,I would wait till you get your own trk.Bring a weeks worth of clothing. No need to change them everyday as long as they're not too dirty.Bring tolitries but not too much, shampoo, shaving stuff, soap.Sleeping bag and if you pack just right, you can put all your other belongings in the bag.Don't forget all the paperwork needed for orientation and buy an organizer for that.
