Is there only one 12 volt source in a truck. My car has 2 just curious. That lunch box thing looks pretty cool will it heat water to for my instant coffee. Gotta have my coffee :) All I want to run is a small refrigerator, my laptop in the evening for a little while for email and chat with my kids and something to cook with and heat up water. The swift trucks don't happen to have a refrigerator do they?:biggrin_25525:

If you're doing the 4 week at AIT, you're probably going to have Mr. Ireland as an instructor. He's awesome! I don't know squat about Swift, but I assure you that you're going to enjoy AIT and the instructors there are AWESOME! I did the four week and I had a blast on the course and on the road. I had Mr. Gibbs on the road/range portion of my schooling.

Both of my instructors had a lot of miles. Mr. Ireland has over 5 million and Mr. Gibbs over 4 million. They know their stuff and can really make a rig move! If you have any AIT questions, feel free to PM or ask on the forums or whatever. I also did a lot with Tracy in the office. Kim is also really nice and helpful.

Beware the "trick" questions... also... remember when you're testing in a certain area (hazmat for example) don't try to think of answers that would only pertain to other endorsments... sometimes the answers cross over and sometimes they are totally different and will get you!

Good luck! Can't wait to hear how you do and what company you ultimately drive with!

Thanks Smaggs for the information. I am not sure which way I am going yet, keeping and trying to get as many doors open as I can right now.

I have a little over a month before school starts, spending some quality time with my family and a short camping trip and some fishing up in north eastern Arizona in the beautiful white mountains. Getting pumped and excited to start.

Scheduled the start date when I did so I could have most of my kids time of school to spend with them.

Gonna be gone a lot but they are supportive and understand Mom need to do what she needs to do to provide for our family. They are also excited about going with me once I get past all the training and probation periods.

So a rider policy is one of the things I am looking for in a company. Wish they had a pet ok policy, but it appears most don't unless you O/O or L/P. Not ready to go there yet, figure I will give it a year and see what happens, but it is definitely something I may be interested in possibly pursuing. Take care and drive safe. Hope to see you around.

Oddly enough I had a female mentor. From talking to others I went to school/orientation with I think I got the best one out of all of us too. Let me do everything from day 1 and every time that truck needed to back up it was my job. Also taught me a lot of ways to cover my ### when things happen and not get dinged for stuff like service failures. We still text/call each other all the time keeping up with where each of us are. Sadly, she told me she is tired of the female students. Her words, not mine but she says they don't want to do the work, just sit and drive. I'm talking about things like sweeping a trailer or getting down and dirty with some stubborn tandems.

Then why the heck did they sign up and become a driver. Although I haven't started yet I can see it isn't about being a steering wheel holder. There is physical work as well as physiological work that needs to be done on a daily basis. What do they plan to do if they get caught in the mountains they gonna flag down a guy to put those chains on for them? Or crawl under to fix their air hoses because they have came loose. It really doesnt matter to me if I get trained by a women or a man. I just thought the female could show me some tricks of the trade that she learned to get herself out of a jam equipment wise. but then again I have all you in here to give me pointers so I think I will do just fine,:yes2557:

Do the swift trucks have refrigerators in them and are there more than one 12 volt source?

Nope, no fridges in company trucks but you can put one in or a 12 v cooler anyway. At least 1 12 v outlet on the dash, sometimes 2, another one where you might put a tv, and yet another one where you could plug in your fridge or by the bunk depending on the truck make you have. The one on the dash is usually the one that can handle higher loads.

Thanks for the info, now I can go get a sign and stand on the off ramp of interstate 10 near the truck stop asking them for money to buy a frig for my truck that I don't have yet. Think that will work? Joking seriously but thanks again for the info. :)

I have no idea what they plan to do, probably try and get someone to do it for them I guess. In all reality its not that much physical work compared to a lot of jobs out there. Judging by some of the trailers I pick up though having an aversion to sweeping them is probably not limited to the fairer sex.

Every truck has at least 3 power outlets, I've seen as many as 6. As far as fridges go, you can buy a small one for relatively cheap, less than $50. It won't hold much, of course, but it'll be enough for some lunch meats and yogurt. I used a small cooler I had bought while local for a couple years OTR, until it quit working. It's enough to get by until you get the $200 to buy a really good one (I like the Koolatron KCR-40).

And, yes, the lunchbox oven will boil water, in about 30 minutes. How much of a hurry are you for that coffee?:biggrin_2559:
