I have been thinking a lot about Henderson. Are you sure that do that guarantee??? One of my concerns about Swift is that they will starve me and have bad equipment. If I get an offer from Henderson, I will still try to make over 1k/wk. It would just be nice knowing that you can take home a livable minimum amount.
Not to be nit picky, but your wages for company training is WAY low. Prime starts at .43 if you drive a smaller eco-friendly truck, and .38 if you get a standard sleeper. Henderson Trucking starts at .38 in a full size truck Swift in Sept. of 2014 was paying at least .33 per mile (over 500 miles). I think they've raised that to .35. Roehl has a varied pay structure, but If i remember correctly, it's around the .36 mark Maverick starts .38-.45 depending on position Millis starts at .36 (no per diem) or .31 (with per diem) I'm NOT saying that company sponsored is the way to go, but I just want to make it clear that you will be making well over the .20 mile you quoted. Generally, companies will pay roll deduct the cost of training @ $50 a week. With that taken out, your still clearing well over .20 a mile.
Yes, that guarantee is real. I'm sure there are loop holes. Like I do know that it doesn't apply to weeks that are short because of home time. The recruiter spoke of the minimum mile guarantee with me, and there is thread somewhere on TTR that is verified by a current driver. I start with Henderson in 8 days. I researched EXTENSIVELY on who to go with, and am confident that as far as company sponsored training is concerned, Henderson was my best choice. Only time will tell.
1. You don't like large vehicles 2.You'll only drive at night 3.You're content to sit on your butt for weeks between jobs until you run out of money 4.You're above certain types of work 5.You want to be a truck driver. Reminds me of one of those intelligence tests. Which of the 5 is least like the others. Seriously, you need to take a good look through this forum and read a lot. Go into the Schneider, Swift, Roehl and Werner sections and look for threads from new drivers starting out in trucking.
Classroom and housing is in O' Fallon, Illinois, about 10 minutes east of Caseyville. I'd assume that the rang is at the yard in Caseyville, but that's just a guess.
I drove a local route for many years, saved some money, paid off all debts....At age 50 got on a 3 day a week mail run...taking it easy now, on SSecurity
Another thing you need to think about is can you make yourself sleep after only being awake 8 hours. Lets say you have only been awake 8 hours and arrive at a shipper. They tell you that they will load you in 12 hours. If you stay awake, you will have been up 20 hours and your company figures you have had your 10 hour break and are ready for a fresh 14. That means you will have been awake for 34 hours the next time you shut down! No good!!!!! In this scenario, you will need to go to sleep after only been awake a short period of time. I always carried ibuprofin PM in the truck. It helps! Sometimes being able to turn "it" off is as important as keeping "it" turned on.
