Why the low demand on drivers in Florida. I called several companies today and was told not hiring any drivers located in the state of Florida. One company said, they are hiring in all lower 47 except Florida at this time. Anyone offer up any thoughts?

Other than Florida being the black hole of the earth for freight, none that I can think of.

Probably already have too many drivers that are domiciled in Florida.

Florida has always been one of those low volume freight states for every company Ive worked for including myself. They pay you good to go down there but good luck getting out. To answer your question my guess would be they cant get you consistent freight when you go home because of supply.

Its also on the far corner of the country, you wont have any freight passing by like if you lived in the middle. Im in new england having the same problem, nothing really goes that far out from the central states. Its like night and day seeing the number of trucks on the road going from New Hampshire to even Pennsylvania.

I bet the winter months slows it down up there quite a bit

I dont think the winter makes much of a difference around here other than construction industry, most of the stuff is consumer goods or materials for a little bit of light industry. Nothing like those western mountain states where the roads are impassable for days at a time.

I think Florida is just over saturated with drivers. A few of my buddies have been saying the same thing. Pretty simple solution would be just to move to a state with more work in trucking.
