I was looking for the right answer and then several posted itThe truck is designed to run and perform loaded.
You ever slam on the brakes on your car? The first thing is the car drops as the shocks and springs absorb the inertia, putting more tire tread on the road. Well trucks have extra heavy duty springs and shocks to handle the weight of a load. Empty they can't squat like a car and you have minimal tread versus a loaded truck with maximum tread on the pavement.
If you ever see a empty truck lock em down, the trailer will attempt to hop.
ursus, truckers like to debate
When you take the test, it's multiple choice and what you see on the practice test is pretty close to it. Out of four multiple choice answers, two are plain stupid, the third is half stupid and then there's the right answer sticking out. Piece of cake.

the "book" is not exactly to my liking either, but it has been updated to the most current techniques for one to learn and know to pass the permit test. the "book" tells us how to do things in a step by step process so that we get accustomed to doing the job the same way each and every time, especially things like the pre and post trips.
the "book" will explain how to do a drop & hook......in school we teach the drop & hook as per the book..........however, in the "real world", it just isn't done exactly that way. its more of a "drop and slam"......
you will continue to find things in the book that doesn't make sense. in fact, in a video from CTTS which your school may show you, the man talking to you "Bill" will say something like,
"look, I know a lot of you old timers will not agree with what you're hearing, and you might not like it,
but it's the states and the federal government that have come up with this, and its their ball, you gotta answer things the way THEY WANT TO HEAR IT".....
so go along with what the "book" says, and you will do fine.......
there are some online places you can go for CDL practice questions:
www.roadwars.com
www.layover.com
take all the tests you want, its free, and you will see your score at the bottom....
and above all else, remember, its NOT ROCKET SCIENCE......you DO NOT NEED any complicated formulas....plain, simple, english.......
and a whole lotta common sense.......!!!
do NOT over think your answers.
read the question entirely, and slowly.
NEVER add or take out a word, read the questions as they are printed
it's "usually" the FIRST answer that'll pop into your head....DO NOT change your answer, that's when you WILL BE WRONG...!!!
and any answer that has the any of these words, in a multiple choice question:..... safe, safely, safer, safest, safety, is always the answer THEY WANT...>!!!!
