It's a sorry statement on the quality of drivers nowadays that they need to be told this information or are now just being enlightened.

    Should be a law.

DOT cop: "Driver show me that your CB radio is on"
Driver: "Uh, I forgot to turn it on. I can't understand them southern rednecks anyways."
DOT cop: "Too bad for you, driver. That's 1 CSA point right there!"

I'm gonna get flamed for it... CB is useless. Bunch of morons ruined it, and I'm willing to bet some of you are responsible given the odds. You got no one to blame but yourselves.

Had it for 4 years. Waste of space just be and hear others constantly verbally abused.

What's the difference I can't communicate with 4 wheelers, and I don't really care to communicate with anyone that has 18.

conditions are bad, I park it. If I need some info so bad, I have a smartphone.

I'm in no hurry that I can't see what kind of conditions I'm heading into by surveying the visual appearance of the trucks coming in the opposite direction. Or worse case I pull into a fuel island and ask someone. If I don't like the answer, I'm already in a truckstop so I can park it.

ive got weatherband radio. I've got numerous apps for traffic, weather and even radar. Some of these states road reports are amazing with sensors and traffic cams.

im never in so much of a hurry that I have to know why traffic is at a standstill, or need someone's half researched route off the road to go around it when I've got my own atlas. I can be late if it's not my fault and traffic isn't if I've given myself a proper cushion.

A lot of it has to do with all the CB Rambos and trash today that draws some drivers away from it. They need CB moderators that can zap and fry those idiots CBs so it can be enjoyable again.

I always left mine on regardless. One can squelch it down where you only pick up a strong signal immediately around you. There can always be some obstacle over that next hill you can't see.

My CB was like a blonde woman yapping. I only heard the important things, lol.

Illegal to use the smart phone while driving, so the apps are just about useless. That's where the CB comes into play, like for instance the four wheeler stopped in your lane with no lights, the driver ahead of you can warn you about... its all about safety, something all of us should be striving for.

In my book, Karl Malden should do CB commercials... "Don't leave home without it".
That's my view on having a CB and having it always on. If you're against them due to the yahoos,, then easy fix.. just crank the squelch up a bit.
My CB (actually a 10-meter radio) has "seen" a wide variety of incidents on the highway, that easily moved its importance rating up to the category of being a dire necessity, and not just "optional equipment". IMO, and experience having one, the benefits FAR outweigh the negatives.

A phone, no matter how "smart" it is, will not tell you of cars and semi's scattered all over the highway immediately over the next hill/overpass, from black ice (my CB did). A phone also won't communicate with nearby truckers when you have a DUI heading in the oncoming lanes (my CB allowed me to warn others). Fog breakdowns/hazards, police high speed pursuits, etc.
I could go on with scores of other incidents where it was a vital & irreplaceable communication tool, but no need to ramble on. You get the picture.
There's a good chance mine, as well as countless others who use a CB, have saved lives. What more reason would anyone need?

CB's --where else can men fight for miles and not get hurt. I always begged them to get out of the truck and let me referee --no one would ever stop --{sigh}!:argue::boxing:

I haven't been at this for long...CB has saved me more than a few times...I learned quick to ignore the garbage. That guy that runs between Atlanta and Nashville every night...handle is Rising Sun or something or another...will keep you awake.
