you answered your own question.
all trucks not given bypass must enter open scales.
in california, the signs comes in 2 flavors.
all trucks stop at scales. ===== means they're open.
scales closed. ==== means they're closed.
in utah, the signs says open when flashing.
so, if the sign isn't flashing during daylight hours. are you going to roll through like everyone else does? LOL cuz i'm the only one NOT rolling through.
don't worry about what everyone else does. if your smart, you'll learn pretty quickly that most other trucks AREN'T.
Quick question about weigh stations...

You follow the pre pass. There are usually signs close to the scales that direct pre pass holders to follow in cab directions, or something similar. If the scale is open and you receive a red light, then you enter the scale. If you have a green light, it means that you don't have to stop. I think someone previously mentioned that if you have a permitted load, you always enter an open scale, regardless of what your pre pass does.

Alright I'll follow the prepass then. If I get pulled over I'm going to point the officer to this thread and you'll all have to help pay for my ticket. Suckers.

I got the green bypass in indiana and it said "ALL TRUCKS IN".
Sure enough, one of the bears got into his car and sped and stopped me. I asked him, officer.. i got the bypass. he didnt want no part in a conversation. the dude asked me for my logs and he skimmed through them really quick and asked where i was going...told him to michigan. he then said "NEXT TIME, WHEN IT SAYS ALL TRUCKS IN... GET IN.".
Wtf? I didnt even bother arguing. Sure enough... next morning, "all trucks in" again.. i pulled in even THOUGH i got the bypass.. that ####### was there and he flagged me for a level 3 inspection! lmao. ####### crooks man.DoneYourWay Thanks this. -
If the scale didn't or doesn't have the "Pre-Pass" system, you would never get the green light. Like others have said, follow the "Pre-Pass" unless you're hauling Haz-Mat (IAW that states laws). If a scale has the Pre-Pass system and they want drivers to run across the scales, they will make the adjustment. If you come up and close in on a scale and never get a signal, pull in.
