I have a CB in a Volvo truck. Only problem it's slip seating, I have got a good antenna with a quick release so i can bring it from truck to truck. What I am wondering is if I can connect a wire to the ground on the antenna mount and run that inside my cab and connect it to the "negative" 12volt connection where the CB mounts up as a ground.

CB shop tells me no, ground must be as short as possible.

No you cant. You really want to ground comming off of your trucks frame for something like this, you may be able to run a wire down to the bolt holding the seat down but thats a big maybe. You really want to get the best dround for your power as you can or poof goes your electronics!
