50 is a good road, but slow going due to curves and tourists (especially if it's your first time). But between 50 and 70, I would take 50. Any time you save will be lost in Denver traffic.
I would run 15-6-70-50-25-87

all I was asking was if 50 was a decent way to go. I've done 70 several times heading down that way but not 50. Recaps does mean something to me because I've got limited duty time and don't want to watch it melt away on a possible slow road.
I dont understand your "ought to be a law..." comment. All I asked for was some opinion on how 50 was vs taking 70. Why would you respond if all you want to do is insult me?Powder Joints Thanks this. -
US-6 E, US-191 S, US-491 S, US-550 S, ... and I-37 S
scottied67 and HousTank Thank this. -
thanks, I appreciate your input. I'll have to take 64 after 25 due to the fuel stop Swift selected in NM.
I think I'll go with 50 to see what the roads like since I haven't driven it yet. Used plenty of other CO back roads but not this one. My DM usually doesn't question what routes I take as long as I get there on time. I generally go the way they ask because of the fuel stops but this past year it seems Swifts routing system is based more on shortest distance and not most efficient. -
Because it depends on where you're going in the panhandle ... the way you're headed is alright if you're going to be up near OK ... but if you are close to or south of Amarillo, Powder's route is the way to go ... though he left out US 64 to get to 550 and I40 to get to 27.HousTank Thanks this.

Not arguing, but I dont understand 50 or 70 for going to the panhandle from provo. I run west constant. South thru Flag . Phx , El Paso and down. are you pre routed.
HousTank Thanks this. -
Understandable. I'm going to Dalhart. I guess I should've been more clear. Was just curious about 50. I know what route I'm taking to Grand Junction and what route from Pueblo to Dalhart because of the fuel stop on 64.
Sometime back I had read some negative stuff about 50 but I think that was during the winter. This is the first time Swift has routed me on 50 to get down there. They used to route me across 70 and down 25. -
Perfect time of year to take 50. It will be gorgeous. Just watch for deer.
HousTank Thanks this. -
Keep in mind ... 50 will be slow going and I don't recall a whole lot of places to stop between Grand Junction and PuebloHousTank Thanks this.

US 50 is a fun, but deceiving road. You've got Cerro Summit, Blue Mesa Summit and Monarch Pass. The canyon stretch at the bottom of Blue Mesa Summit is tight and twisty, the stretch approaching Gunnison, while not tight, going too fast can cause a problem. Monarch Pass is a PITA, the East side is steep and easy to build up speed on. The worst stretch is from Salida to Pueblo, twisty, narrow, 35 mph limit, average once a week truck rollovers from going too fast.
