Ford was running the 5.9 Cummins in the big trucks for a long time, since they got away from the 8.2 Detroit. And then Dodge decided to start putting the 5.9 in their pickups.

We have class "C" trucks with air brakes.crb Thanks this.

Class c is above 26k. I've driven numerous 26k plus air brake trucks. He is looking for under 26k.
For quiet I suggest paccar motor. -
Just curious if you ever pulled through a D.O.T. inspection with that truck before you had a cdl?crb Thanks this.

Look at new rollbacks with IH and Freightliner. It's quite common to find them with full air brakes and air ride suspension with under 26Kgvw

I have a 2011 F350 with Fords new diesel in it and yes it's quiet When you open the hood the first thing that comes to mind is "I hope it doesn't break cuz my hands don't fit in here". For a class 6 size truck I'd be thinking Cat, Cummins Mercedes or International. I realize Cat is out of the new truck engine market for now but I'm looking for a 8-10 year old truck anyway so a Cat is still a option. So of those four, who's is the quietest.

Then hands down what you want is a Ford with the 6.7 Cummins. Quiet, powerful, fuel efficient. Need to delete the thing to make it really shine

Yes I did. No problems.
