The absolute worst is when you see a load with decent money going to a port. You get there, and it’s an old factory with a crew removing the production machines.

They want to put some greasy production machine, with all the brackets piled on your trailer and then they want you to tarp it. The tarp is to keep the grease and metal filings and brackets and nuts and bolts from flying off the trailer at highway speed.

Nope. I don’t tarp greasy machines. Want a machine tarped? Build a crate around it.

Holy crap man I just tried my absolute best to quote a load but I could not understand a word this lady was saying. WTH!? How does she ever ever move a load!? I really really tried but no matter what I could not make out who she was with or even the zip codes she was trying to provide me....

This is 100% true. I just went through this couple months ago, I told them to get a van trailer to haul it.....this is "open deck"

Got this the other day. Load of square structural steel coming from Mexico. Tarp it they said. Nope I said. There will be a charge for not tarping. I said there will be a bigger one if I tarp it.

I don't do heights period, especially not with muddy boots walking on oily slick steel tubing.

Not dragging my lumber tarps (it's all I currently carry) through the mud only to throw them onto oil covered metal so I can ruin a lumber load the next time I have to take one.

That story reminds me of AK Tube below Toledo....a guy died on tall oily tubing a while back.

Aw heck, I would have unloaded that in seconds. Leave it unsecured, rev the engine, pop the clutch...

How about when you ask, does the shipper have off street parking for staging or waiting.

Wow. Just wow. How can you hire someone that NEEDS to be understood on the phone but simply can not be!? Now add in the fact that a O/O might be driving when she calls and forget it! And then add in the fact that she had a crappy microphone! I could not understand one word out of her mouth....she might as well been speaking martian.
