When I used to smoke, I would quit during the summer to make backpacking easier. Never bothered me to quit for a few months at a time because I always had a reason to, plus I figured I'd be smoking again in a few months so there never was anything in my head saying that this was a permanant decision.

When my son was born, in the winter, I couldn't leave him unattended while I stepped out to have a smoke, so I thought I'd just quit for a few months and start back up again in the spring, that way I could just bring him outside with me while I had a smoke. For whatever reason, I just never started smoking again. It's been almost 9 years ago and there is absolutly no urges at all. My neighbors smoke and I'm around them all the time and it doesn't bother me at all.

    Something that might help,
Get your teeth cleaned, or get your car or semi truck detailed. That might give you another incentive to not start up again. Most of it's just in your mind. Good luck.

I paid well over a hundred for the blucig starter kit, and 20 per pack of tips for it. And no, there isn't a warranty on the atomizer. Just another way to get ya in the long run lol. And a carton of tips wouldn't last but maybe 5 days.

I've heard some nasty things about Chantix. Nightmares, can't sleep, bad thoughts, etc...

Did Chantix a few years ago and kicked it in 4 days. That lasted about 5 months. I actually enjoy smoking and it keeps co-workers from getting severly injured. Plus my only reason to live is the will to burn another carton! lol Never had any problems with Chanitix. Took it 2 weeks and was done.

Still cheaper than cigarettes and probably won't kill you!

My wife did the Chantix...It really didn't seem to do much except help her quit....She's been off of them since June.

As far as side effects went...We really didn't notice much of a change!

    Nightmares?

    She lives with me...

    Can't sleep?

    She lives with me...

    Bad thoughts?

She lives with me...She already has all those things!:biggrin_2556:

My aunt died when I was 12 at the age of 40 from lung cancer. She was a smoker. My mother-in-law now has emphysema and can barely walk ten feet without getting winded. She was a smoker. Peter Jennings, my favorite ABC anchorman died of lung cancer after he picked back up his smoking habit. My father smoked and I suffered from repeated bouts of bronchitis as a result of second hand smoke. He quit smoking back before they had drugs to help. Try replacing a bad habit with a good. Journal your thoughts when you want to smoke instead.
    Hope this helps.

I quit cold turkey after I discovered I was not addicted to nicotine.

I WAS ADDICTED TO THE CRAP THE PUT IN CIGARETTS WITH THE TOBACCO!!!

I could smoke a Sherman or a Swisher or some other cigar and not be satisfied.

Upon that discovery I started shunning my regular brand and any made by the same company. And rotated companies/brands, so I would not fall into another TRAP, for a week or 2. Then got up one morning and just quit, no more.

In my mind tapering off or substituting something to replace smoking only prolongs quitting or creates more wreckage that has to be cleaned up. I also feel that the "quitting smoking" industry that has sprung up is just preying on suckers.

If you want to quit, just F'in quit. Break the brand dependency first then it will be much easier as you loose a fair bit of "enjoyment" smoking brands you are not used to. That can work to your advantage by buying smokes that you don't like. Then it is cold turkey time!

^ man up the previous post is what really needs to take place.

funny, i got a black n mild in my mouth while typing. I quit many times, but every time I go to gathering where a ton of people smoke I break in.

don't take prescription to quit, no matter what anybody testifies to. Do yourself a favor, ask a pharmacist to print out side effects of a drug before you even take it. you will be very surprised. you could end up mentally damaged.

I initially was a 20 year smoker of cigarettes, than quit for 3 years. Then went back, then changed to cigar smoking, then quit that and went into snus. The snus was fine but when they jacked up the price I went back to cigar smoking.

just the other day I bought a pipe and some tobacco. Man that is really disgusting. All day long you smell like crap.

The best and only way is develop enough hatred and conviction against smoking and do it.

another thing that will help is keep yourself busy, don't sit down bored. every time you want a smoke squeeze a rubber ball (raquet ball or chinese steel balls) or something to vent. exercising like running also will relieve you. If you play raquet ball you really will increase the dopamine levels in your body and get a better feel than a cigarette.

There is this little trigger in your brain that lights up when you intake anything and are satisfied. In some people this thing cause overeating, smoking, and drugs. so if you teach it not to trigger it will reset after a period of time, that is all to it. The hard part is understanding that it will only last for burst minutes, but those few minutes feel like a long time.

I am with you I am quitting, and surely when I drive a truck I aint going to smoke.

    good luck.

Both me and my wife quit 6 weeks ago. We chewed nicotine gum. We are off the gum now, and we don't crave cigs. We were lite smokers at about a half pack a day. Couple years ago we were pack a day smokers but tapered down . :smt033
