@drumchaos, everything still going well with West? I've been looking into options to do CDL training beginning next year. Been with the same company 10 years as a mechanic/manager now and it's time to tackle my dream of being a truck driver instead of sitting back and watching my friends do it. I was initially looking at TMC and then saw R.E. West pop up and I'm definitely interested after reading through this thread. I live in Ridgetop, so I'm not far from Ashland City at all, which would make the training process much easier on myself and family as well. If you don't mind, what's your average weekly miles and take home? I know that's a pretty personal question, just curious since I have a certain salary I need to stay around. I'm very interested in flatbed.

@doored454 - are you originally from Ridgetop? I'm from Greenbrier.

@Chinatown no, but I wish I had moved here sooner! I love it here. I've been in Tennessee two years so far. I've lived around the US, moved from PA to CA to TN for my current job. I asked to move to CA and a year in I started begging to move to TN, best decision I've ever made.

Unfortunately, I had a medical issue and have been off work for about a month or so but I go back tomorrow. With that said, while in the hospital, I got phone calls from the owner of the company to check on me, as well as calls from other staff, dispatch, safety, etc. That in of itself told me a lot about the company.
As far as pay, you're first couple of weeks solo, may or may not be many miles and can be trying. I look at this time as them seeing what you can do and "testing" you so to speak. I went in with a keep my head down, push through and prove my worth attitude. As long as you do that, you will be rewarded. Don't confuse that as getting low miles/pay. Just dont expect to get the best miles/runs as the new guy.
As far as flatbed, we run van, step deck and RGN. I'm on the van side but know the flatbed side starts at a little higher cpm. Feel free to message me if you have any other questions. -

I talked to R.E West last night. Sounds like it will work for me, will be attending CDL schooling. Things didn't work well for me at Maverick due to the 2 year contract they require. Thank for all who posted on this company/thread.
