I got my start at re west.
My trainer told me if I have any issues to scream and wake them up.
    Now is that safe?

Noobs aren't perfect when starting out, someone overseeing them helps prevent mistakes and issues from occuring.
If a trainer is comfortable handing the truck over to a noob and going to sleep WHY is the new driver still even in "training"???
Oh that's right, to have a cheap noob in a truck to run it as a team.

Found out Swift flease drivers can "train" noobs and get paid on all miles to truck moves.
No wonder we see what's going on there

A company's training program represents the character of the company and is pretty telling.

A company that has a trainer awake at all times with a trainee and cuts them loose when they are ready shows right off the bat the company cares about a good training system and is investing themselves into the new driver.

A company that has a trainer asleep most of the time and runs the "training" as a team truck shows the carrier views the new driver as simply just another warm cheap body behind the wheel and could care less about providing the best of training and retaining the driver.
No wonder we see what we see with some of the driver mill carriers.

When the noob can drive without the trainers super vision, they are ready to go out on their own. Just be careful, don't get in a hurry. It's not rocket science.

Fw explained my feelings on the subject way better this morning (couple posts above) than I could have last night when I couldn't sleep for some reason..

What's even worse than the trainer sleeping in the back is the training programs at some carriers that put two trainees in a truck and have them run it as a team.

I don't ever see anyone recommending sni as a training company, but this was one of the biggest reasons I went their way. Training is short (3 weeks and only 1 week otr with a trainer) but the trainer has to start their 14 same time trainee does. And trainee can request a second and a third week with a trainer that sits in the passenger seat and is there to train, not earn money from miles while he's sleeping. Seems like the only way to train really.

I actually applied at TMC and didn't go there because they told me I would have to do 5 weeks as a team with a trainer. Nope.

    Edit: forgot.. What is ESWAS?

It still blows me away when people consider themselves trainers when the experience level hasn't even topped 6 or 8 months.

    I agree with you, totally.

But there is probably an acute shortage of driver trainers. It is not a glamorous job, and somebody has to do it.

The surface warfare insignia is a military badge of the United States Navy which is issued to U.S. Navy personnel who are trained and qualified to perform duties aboard United States surface warships. There are presently four classes of the surface warfare pin, being that of line, staff, special operations, and enlisted.
My mistake; it''s ESWS, not ESWAS. What is that in your avatar?

It's the common sense factor that scares the heck out of me. These "noobs" as you guys and gals call them are a breed of I don't or can't describe. TRUCKING is a lifestyle not a job. You have to have it in your heart to do it. Good days bad days. Good loads bad loads etc. the whiners that complain about so many companies and home time dang. You have to live this life 24/7
