Radar Detector?

Unless your using a newer high end scanner that scans and checks trunking systems or only run the back woods, a scanner won't help much. Most locals, highway patrol, etc. are on either Motorola trunked, ATACS?, or similar.

Few years back took my Escort 8500 in the truck on a trip from Denver to Seattle, stuck it on top of my CB on the dash under the velcro and drove the whole way. Saved my butt coming back empty through Oregon.

why close it? this has been a fairly popular thread thus far and many varying opinions,other than those like yours. i bet that you have never cheated on your elogs or if you do use regular logs,i am sure that you never fudged them.

cheating is cheating whether fudging logs or driving a little over the speed limit ( i am thinking your truck is capped at 65 or less hence your opinion,i may be wrong) or whatever in trucking,you will not ever run 100% legal,no matter what you drive or who you drive for.

radar detectors are not always used for speeding.they,higher end detectors, advise drivers of emergency vehicles,road construction,red light cameras,speed traps,road work,and on and on.

I bet you break 2 or 3 different laws a day as you drive,regardless of how minor the infraction,if you get any miles at all and have deadlines to meet.

 

they all say undetectable on the box or on the detector themselves but i've already went thru all of it. bel, escort, etc & rocky mountain says the same plus says that their's jams. the only truly non detectable radar detector is the valentine but, can a person afford one? they are extremely expensive. go through kentucky especially @ e-town, they will have u drive over it plus a fine (i've experience it already). but it's like the old saying goes, someone designs, makes, produces a product to do 1 thing & then comes along someone else who will do another to counter act it. it's like watching a dog chase his tail if u look @ it close

 

kentucky.I don't doubt a bit.heck,the Ky gives you about 7-8 over in a 70.e-town is serious when they have to be as well.

those i know that run detectors always take it down and unplug it before going thru a scale but have inadvertinly left them plugged up and eased on thru without a problem. older detectors have gotten me a ticket because i met the DOT on a 2 lane and they had the detector detector and newer ones seem to do the job of cloaking from what i am told anyway.

i never speed on a 2 lane as there is no need to but did forget to unplug and paid for it in the last 3 years,but it was an older detector. my only speeding ticket in over ten years was on a 2 lane and i was running a little over and had a detector but still got caught.my head was up my butt.it happens to the best of us and i do not plan on getting another on a 2 lane.

a good detector will absolutely pay for itself in a short time imho but then i really wouldn't know.i run by the book. period.just like those on here that say they never speed or cheat on their logs or elog and want certain threads closed,i emulate them other than drag racing another truck.

I can not stand being clustered up so i move on.

 

With the implementation of CSA and the ever-increasing risks/penalties associated with bad driving behavior, I guess I feel that any advice on how to cheat is just setting the newbies up for failure. "Obey the laws and never worry" is the singular best advice any newb can be given. They have enough to worry about as new drivers without wondering how to cheat from day 1.

Yup. I've driven trucks that can run 100, and truck limited to 60. I've run outlaw, burning through 3 logbooks a month and having as many as 250 violations in a 30-day period. Now? I've seen the errors of my ways and I changed my attitude/behavior. I've seen what happens when you drive with ignorance. The risk is not worth the reward, in my opinion. I drive as if someone from my corporate office is behind me with a dashcam, filming my every move. And I sleep just fine at night knowing that my books are accurate and clean and that I will continue having a job that I enjoy because of it. Not to mention the whole "going to prison for negligence or simply losing my license" thing really doesn't appeal to me. So yeah, I drive like am angel nowadays.

Coincidentally, obeying the laws of the road, consistently scanning the road ahead, consistently checking your mirrors and limiting in-cab distractions will accomplish all that...and it's FREE!

Well, my clean MVR will attest that I do in fact operate within the law, and my current status of 3226 miles/26 stops/3 loads in one week (which makes me the record-holder in my fleet, by the way) will attest that I can do all that and still enjoy a sweet paycheck.

But go ahead and continue attempting to justify your own likely bad habits by minimizing the simple importance of "driving safely 100% of the time".

 

The sad reality is that most drivers out there have the intellect of a tree stump, and have an attitude like I USED to have:

"It's my job to cheat, and it's their job to catch me."

Been there, done that, got the termination notice. Maturity is what allows me to admit I was an ###hole driver and further allowed me to have a 2nd chance and be grateful for it.

It may not look as cool, but having a steady income is way cooler than getting somewhere 15 minutes sooner.

 

I can tell you that bels are undetectable never got caught running with it and ran a lot of Virginia and Maryland it was like my Copenhagen never left home without

I'm a new guy driving and try to keep it no more than 5 over the speed limit.

Now, I know the argument has been presented about choosing which laws we break... but I don't need to rely upon a radar detector to "break" this one

My philosophy, also, is obey the law (within reason, ie, constitutional rights considered) and have no fear about "The Law".

For example, yeah, my truck is gov. at 65mph, but I wouldn't do more than 70 in a 65 anyways, were it not. I was going down a hill today, 65mph in a 65mph zone. A 4wheeler came around me and bam, there sat a State Police car. The 4wheeler had to jam on it's brakes (duh, too late, if you see him!) regardless, I smiled, knowing I was good to go.

For any "new guys" reading this...

IMO, this is one area you DO NOT want to listen to some of what some Vet's have to say.
Ya see, they may have been around the block a few million times, and have learned how to cheat here and there and skirt the law. But is it a risk YOU'RE willing to take?

Dunno bout most of you, but even a minimum speeding ticket, I can't afford.
