That is a FT-840 it is the 2nd oldest radio I have and one I will not part with. It is simple to use and I have the AM/FM/CW/SSB filters or boards installed.

They and the FT-747 before it are good examples of KISS engineering.

Here is my HF rig. Its a late 70's classic from Kenwood. The TS-520S was a solid state hybrid with 2 output tubes and a driver tube. I picked this mint radio up for $400 at a hamfest last year. He still had the box, packing, manuals and an MC-50 desk mic for it. Id say I got a good deal...

Export radios ARE imported into the US..think not? then please enlighten us all with a factory location here in the US that is making these "export" radios....

Right....saw a pic of your Kenwood...I used to run a TS430s which I no longer have as a friend of mine kept hounding my about it...so I sold. Was KE4FCH but let that drop as I lost interest...not with the hobby, but the know-it-alls the seemed to dominate the airwaves. no reflection you personally at all friend. My interest in particular was building antennas and making world-wide contacts on very low power .

NONE they all are inported illegly the problem is IF they are sold as a 10 meter radio on 10 meters since there is no certification of 10 meter radios the dealers have some wiggle room ......

It is a judgement call as to what is and is not a real 10 meter set.

Look at a ranger 2950 stock out of the box it is a real 10 meter radio it covers the entire band with am/ssb/fm modes. MODIFIED it is just another way for the lawless user to get a lot of coverage for his bucks ......

Radios that are AM or AM/FM only and do not cover 29.0 - 29.7 mhz are outright junk useless as a 10 meter radio and made for the illegal CB radio user.

I think if the EXPORT radio market came out with radios that if you converted them DID NOT cover 12 or 10 meters ( SAY 25.000 -27.999 mhz ) the HAM outcry would die off a lot ..... let the people licensed for that band handle it right now we have to run off the ones who still don't get it .....

99.999% of the hams I know are simply sick of bootlegers tuneing up on nets are shouting AUDIO ..... AUDIO .... even as far up as 29.600 ......

Right now the FCC is not efective ....

OK... here is the link to the US Manufacturer of ALL those radios EXCEPT the Magnum brand that are on the list posted here in this forum supposedly extracted from the FCC site regarding "illegal" radios. But before I paste it here, I went to their faq page and I wil quote FAQ #7 for all you people that apparently have been SEVERELY mislead by WACKO HAMS in the your past. I certainly hope from this day forward you will fully understand that the ILLEGAL RADIOS with the exception of the MAGNUM brand radios are ALL MANUFACTURED here IN THE USA by a SINGLE MANUFACTURER, and NOT IMPORTED INTO THE USA, but actually built here IN THE USA to be EXPORTED TO OTHER COUNTRIES that are NOT REGULATED BY THE US FCC. This is the reason they are available here in the USA FOR EXPORT ONLY, and this is the reason they are called by all radio users in the USA UNDER FCC REGULATION where they are ILLEGAL to use because they have included in their range of bands the 11 meter band that in the USA UNDER FCC REGS cannot be included in a HAM RADIO SET. NO MODIFICATIONS ARE NEEDED IN A TRUE "EXPORT" RADIO TO USE IT FOR 11 METERS. These radios can be used as exported into any region OUTSIDE FCC AUTHORITY IN THE WORLD. The world, friends and neighbors, is a REALLY BIG PLACE. There is a HUGE LEGAL MARKET for these radios. RCI has the monopoly on the really good ones, just ask an Australian or an Englishman...or perhaps a chinaman.... but PLEASE DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND WHAT AN EXPORT RADIO IS!!! It really ANNOYS ME! :) Makes me feel like a Gadfly or something....and that aint good! :)

    From RCI site linked below:
    7. Do you service Galaxy, RG-99, etc. radios?

    • We receive calls regarding other radios including the Galaxy, Galaxy DX, RG-XX line, General, and Connex for parts and service. To help unravel any confusion: yes, Ranger manufactures the radios for these companies, but under a strict private label agreement, often times at a different factory. However, under that agreement, we (RCI - Ranger USA) do not sell, warranty, service or handle parts, for those products and are not affiliated with them in any other way. The respective companies maintain and service their own products.
And to read ALL ABOUT IT:
    http://www.rangerusa.com/

If you still don't understand where and why "EXPORT" radios are manufactured...PLEASE...I BEG YOU WITH TEARS IN MY EYES....PLEASE... DONT QUOTE ME HERE AND TURN ME INTO GADFLY'S OPPOSITE! :)

heheheheheheheheheeheeee See I'm losin' it already! HEEEEEEEEEEEELP!
