I have a Galaxy HD29 radio, not sure what it puts out on the low end off the top of my head but on high it puts out 40 watts. I have had numerous compliments on this radio and how it sounds but would like a little more power sometimes. I thought about buying another radio (Galaxy HD47) that puts out 100 watts; it has echo(which I want but it will be turned down, I have heard several people that had their echo turned down low and their radio's really sounded good, wouldn't have known they had echo had I not asked) but don't care for all of the other junk(roger beep, backlit, and etc..). I also thought about switching the radio to low power and use a 100 watt when I wanted. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Props to you for wanting to keep the echo low. High power does no good when nobody can understand what you're saying.

You could run a 2x2879 linear which will do about 350-400 at 12v. Far as echo goes, get a well known shop to add a echo board.

If 150 watts max, you could get a 1 pill linear. I'd also look into the rfx150 amp you can put in the radio. The rfx150 is made for people not wanting to run a lot of extra wires or doesn't have room for a external linear.

How would this work if I use it with my radio on low power? Also, what is the thing about the crystal that is mentioned at the bottom?

Texas Star Variable CW Transmitter - Mod V
    (1102)
    *1-2SC2290
    *100w+ output
    *14A fuse
    *Variable Power
    *Receive Pre Amp
    *Automatic SSB
*v+, mod v+, amp, amps, amplifier

*A crystal must be installed to determine the frequency of operation

Or how about this for an amp?

RM Italy KL 203P HF Linear Amplifier

Frequency 20-30mhz, works on 15 meter, 12 meter and 10 meter ham band.

    • Mode FM-SSB-CW
    • Input power 1 - 5 W Max; Output power: 100 - 200 W Max, Preamp
    • Supply 12-14 Vcc

Too bad the bottoms aren't flat. Bad heat transfer unless they are prepped before installation for longevity.
