Also wonder if Freightliner honchos have majority stock in after market companies such as barjan since their poor quality factory set ups are making a fortune for the aftermarket companies.

    No modifications to either radio.

    1. Yes it was running. And not running. Has issue either way. Worse when moving.
    2. The crackling sounds like someone's mic is breaking up, like when they have a loose mic cord. That choppy reception, with popping in it, and squeele.

    3. It happens anytime I'm receiving regardless of squelch or rf gain. When transmitting, I have a slight crackle on the other persons radio.
    4. Ive tested it with mic gain from 0-100. No power mics.

It sounds like a few things, among them is one is a loose coax connection - internal one that is - another is the coax is bad. Another that comes to mind is problems with the mount and water, but that's something that can be checked.

But instead of guessing, I would try this, just borrow a radio to rule out the radios. One that you know that works and hook it up to either truck. If it is clear, no problems, then it is the radio.

    Hope this helps.

oh and it goes without saying get the best noise cancelling Mic you can find for both of those radios. not a astatic they look good but will not help your problem. ranger sra 198 will help a lot it's a lot better Mic than most people realize . eat the Mic when you talk into it. adjust your Mic gain to where it's needed to get rid of that squealing and feedback......
