What is a good all around CB radio to buy maybe up to 500 dollar range that has good power output say 100 to 175 watt range ?

Just tired of getting lied to from some so called CB shops on the output of CBs. I depend on my CB and I just want a good reliable radio with good power. I understand it takes a good antenna setup to have this too.

    Thank you

That is a great question I would like to know the answer to also but more than likely a few people will start having a peeing match on this thread and there will never be an answer. It sucks but that's the way the last few questions like this have ended up, I would also like to know.

The radio if aligned right isn't the issue, any one will work, but it is the antenna and feedline - coax - that matters more

I am pretty sure my antenna setup is good, but I am also no expert either. I like the idea of the radio having a lot of power output, but I also want the radio to be reliable too. Current radio is a Stryker SR 655 HP.

OK it is then simple, get something that has an amp behind it. BUT again antenna systems don't stay static, so getting it checked is prudent.

I hear ya. I have read a lot of posts on here from folks far better than I about stuff, so I do know there are a lot of key points in the antenna setup. I need to get over towards Knoxville TN to have one of the few CB shops check everything out.

With a $500 budget, you could pick any "CB Radio" and put a 1x2 amp behind it and be "King of the Hill"...Instead of seeing just 100-175 watts out, you could be getting closer to 400w's...

I payed right at $200 for my President McKinley, and $325 for a 1x2 Amp, and see right at 400w's out... You could go with a Cobra 29 which are around half what the McKinley runs, and put a 1x2 behind it and still see around 400w's...

-just not a fan of radios with built-in amps that do 100w's plus...They get too hot, and are prone to heat related problems...but that's just me.

    1). The basic radio (don’t buy lesser) would be a UNIDEN 980. AM/SSB. $150

2). An RM ITALY KL203 amp. $75 for 75W. Will run on same circuit as radio (15A).

3). West Mountain Radio ClearSpeaker. An adjustable DSP circuit clears the noise. No CB or Export Radio has this.
    $200.

Getting out is great. But hearing what the radio by itself can’t clear up is superior.

I have been looking at the Clear Speaker thing for a few months. Someone on here recommend it a while back. I just haven't been ready to pull the trigger on it yet.

One question, do you have to provide power to it as in an external 12v source ?

    Slowmover1 Thanks this.

    $500 won't get you anything with a 100 watt carrier.. Even this 100 watt RCI-2970N4 is $669.00...
