How do you get the foam inside cut to shape to fit your radio not all radios are the same shape comparing a Bearcatt or cobra to a magnum or Stryker is a big difference

First look for antenna transport is a PLANO 46102 Expanding Rod Case. “Grows” to 8.5’. (I’ve just ordered a pair of 102” whips from DX Engineering so I’ll need one also).

I’ve only ever “ruined” one antenna in moving it one location to another, but that’s enough.

Case appears to be $65 or so. Will see.

Suggestions for PERMANENT antenna transport cases welcomed.

I’m sure glad you brought this up. I didn’t think about others not being aware of what PELICAN calls Pick n’ Pluck cubed foam:

The $29.99 sale-priced APACHE 3800 comes with pre-cut, “cubed” foam. Small squares as viewed from top. Multiple layers.

Lay out gear, decide on depth, remove foam blocks from each layer as required.

Buy top dollar PELICAN and you’re at over $100 for this size.

Transport cases like these are sold with this foam design, solid foam block or “empty”. Can be a big price difference on XL cases when you’re searching a catalog.

    For my kit:

I am not going to fit my radio & accessories for the 885 Uniden till I am at home (scanner antenna, GPS antenna, etc, is part of it). It may be I can fit my 880 into it as well (hiding below).

Depends on which BUCKET BOSS Gladstone-style tool bag I mate with it. (Gatemouth 13 shown)

The idea is to have all necessary to get into any brand/model of big truck, install gear & go. (For example, I have a 10-ga double-fused 12V Anderson PowerPole lead set that can grow out to 20’). Coax jumpers, connectors, brackets, spares, etc

As well some basic, dedicated tools for radio rig (truck already has my truck tool box in side box)

I started buying this brand 15-20/years ago. Still like new.

And this size transport case + gear bag I find I can stow pretty easily in a big truck.

Radios may come & go, but transport ALWAYS a problem. Plus, when I’m out of a truck, I prefer to keep the gear indoors. Safe. A dedicated cabinet.

Wow, I dig those cases for the electronics. I always thought something like that would be cool to have. So if say you're carrying a mobile CB in it, you would have the CB's connections dis-connectable, right?

Depends on the item AND the way it’s being used.

For the most part, components are already set up to disconnect power or coax. Nothing hardwired.

Assume also a GPS, telephone headset and maybe other devices best protected.

Browning soft case. Right shape. Padded. Don't like the bulk of hard cases.

We didn’t discuss parameters in this thread.

Craigsez bought a hard transport case to send his to New Mexico from Canuckistan. What got us rolling in another thread.

The price of quality hard cases (PELICAN, NANUK, SKB) is high. The Harbor Freight APACHE is one-third. Thus Rabbis link to HF. Then this thread.

Soft case is nice until something heavier winds up on top of it. Or it slips off the seat thru an open door and 5’ to ground. Wouldn’t hurt a pistol (optics maybe).

Any choice is better than two tee shirts.
