Dang it .....so simple HHG/PRATICAL/HUB... they pay you on what their company policy is... HHG is the shortest route meaning 2 lane and small towns...Pratical is basicly Zip code to Zip code...and of course HUB is starting milage and ending milage.. now of course you can deduct about 10 percent milage on Pratical per year cause a zip code can be in a large area....as for raising the pay scale thats getting tuff because freight wars..its called cheaper wins.. sometimes company drivers would be better off getting percentage over milage

Yup, sounds pretty simple. As a driver, I don't think I would like "practical". I've never had anything to do with OTR and I pay my drivers percentage. IMO, the only fair way to pay is that the driver gets paid on the same basis that the truck gets paid. If the company is getting a flat rate, then they should pay percentage. If the company is paid by the mile, the driver should be paid by the mile. If the company is paid by the hour, the driver should be paid by the hour. As an owner, it's the best way to accurately calculate your human resources costs and therefore, your rates.

Actually HHG goes from zip code to zip code (actually where the post office is in each city) and practical goes from point to point. Both are not very good, but you will get closer to hub miles with practical.

I actually did better on HHG when I delivered to Chicago as it went to the south side for my deliveries and saved about 15 miles.

IN that case, yup, HHG would suck. However, if a company chooses to pay based on that, that is their right and if a driver doesn't like, don't work there. The problem with HUB miles (as I see it) is that drivers would go out of their way to spend the night at a relatives, or see a girlfriend that's "only" 50 miles out of the way and so on. Whether we like it or not, many people abuse and this is what companies have to protect themselves from.

Nothing you've said has gone over my head. Don't flatter yourself. I'm saying more than you seem to have picked up. I'm saying that running away isn't the only solution. It's just the only solution proposed by a few on this thread.

I think that some people scan these threads just to find opportunities to jump in and say RUN AWAY. Take yourself, for example. You admittedly know nothing about HHG, yet you jumped right in. And what was your wise counsel? RUN AWAY. Take your one size fits all solution to another thread. There's gotta be a thread on here for runners. If not, I'll make one. That's where you should go from here on whenever you want to encourage others to run away. Thanksbye. :biggrin_25522:

Sorry, but this post proves that what people are telling you is going over your head. Nobody is saying "run away" what I, and I believe the others, are trying to get through to you is that how a company chooses to pay IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS. You have neither the right or obligation to try to have them change. If you don't like it, don't work there. When you have invested several million dollars in trucks and years of building a network of customers, you too, will be free to pay your drivers using whatever formula you choose without some 2 bit driver trying to tell you how to run YOUR BUSINESS.

    Namecalling, L2K? Really?

I don't have any business with what I'm doing, but it's your place to tell me how to go about my business? You think funny.

I think that me and any drivers who think like me can make fleet owners think again about HHG. All we have to do is give shippers a reason to find a new motor carrier. It should be that simple. Do I have your permission to pursue this plan, sir? :pottytrain1:
