Not sure if you read correctly, but I was saying for $25 more, meaning room would cost $50-55.
I used to get 3 star hotels on Priceline for $40+fees, about $52-55 total...not in every city of course. 3 star would be Courtyard Marriott, Holiday Inn or similar. Not sure about truck parking though.
If you don't believe me I can show receipts.

I don't need to see your receipts...

Laddie, you have a lot to learn. Enjoy your new hobby. Cuz if you expect to make a living at this while in vacation mode, that is all it is, a hobby.

The problem I see is that newbies think of running a little truck as a starting point. Its not, its something you refine too, The only reason to run hot shot in a pickup is to make more money, and thats not the case 99.99% of the time, its a very small specialized part of the industry that has gotten blown up by people thinking they can get in without having to put up much and sneak under the radar.
That is simply not the case.

Those dually drivers must be pretty wealthy if they can afford to drive around and work for nothing.

You would be surprised at the success rate, its really really low. Most either get out or end up going bigger.

Most of the guys driving around carring cars on a wedge trailer are listening to someone who don't know what they are talking about. Swamp Thing knows what he is talking about. There are a lot of guys doing this, maybe that is why so many try it, most of them get bigger or get out. There are guys on here I seen on other forums have moved up from the pick up truck.

Already have a cc and no thanks. Do you piss in a milk jug at 3 am or walk across the truck stop parking lot to take a piss? You should really try not living in the back of your truck... Your life would be better.

I used to drive a 5500 and here is one load that we pulled with it.

Way to make a pickup look small. The tanks are fiberglass and only weigh a total of 14k. But the point is that when I was loading I was talking with a guy that had a single axle tractor. He used to run a 5500 and knows of others that have been using 450 and 550 for this same work. He stated that they got one year max out of these pickups. It did not matter who made the truck.

Pickups are made to pull the occasional load and not heavy loads day in and day out like a tractor is. Yes it is more expensive to repair a tractor but you will not be replacing an engine or transmission within a year. I have seen lots of wedge haulers that have also had to replace rear ends due to the wear and tear on them.

Oh and that 5500, it got 6-7 mpg loaded to 40-43k and 10 empty.... Hmmmm really close to the same thing a single axle tractor would get.
