I'm also looking for my first truck. I currently have a 16 Ram with the dreaded 68RFE in 3.42. Trying to find an Aisin with 4.10's in a 3500 is brutal, and my wife works for Ram. Are some of you just towing "heavy" with the 4500 4.10's and seeing success? My personal truck seems to have lost the heavy stuff in a field but was told not to do it with DOT and inspections...true or not?

Stick with a 3500 and get 3.73 gears with the Aisin transmission. There are plenty of 3.73 geared dually's out there the tough part is finding the Aisin.

Just bought picked up my 2017 yesterday

Agreed. The 3500 has better power and way better gearing.

The pickup market is way behind the curve in this area, there still running stupid gear ratios in the 4500/5500/med duty trucks... The rest of the trucking industry is downspeeding.
    I want a 5500 with 3.73 and aisin , maybe even 3.55s......and 22.5 lp rubber

Thanks for the replies. I drove a 4500 crew yesterday to compare and it will send you to the chiropractor. That truck had the 6.4 Hemi. Don't know why someone would buy that setup. Absolutely gutless at elevation. I have found a couple nice used Aisin 4.10's. 3.73's are slim pickings. I don't see buying a brand new truck as the right way for me. A used truck will allow more money for the ridiculously expensive insurance for the first few years.
