One thing I have started noticing 25+ years ago. The carriers place too much emphasis on avoiding these conditions and NOT enough on actually showing drivers how to chain. I have actually witnessed carrier home terminal personnel tell drivers to not worry about knowing how to chain, just make sure you carry them in the winter. I have lost count over the years how many times I have run upon a driver lost trying to chain and not knowing how this is NOT THE TIME to be teaching it. I had a serious animated discussion with such an idiot when I noticed after a PM my chains had been removed. I finally told my fleet manager I either got new chains to replace them OR I was cleaning out my tractor, YOU CHOOSE! It's amazing how quickly those bags of chains appeared afterward.
baha, alds, God prefers Diesels and 1 other person Thank this. -
Mentorship is something severely lacking these days. You wouldn't believe the stuff a 10 year old kid picks up riding in the passenger seat of a logging truck at every opportunity.alds and God prefers Diesels Thank this.

The only thing I do different than this guy, is I throw the chain on the ground, upside down first. Then I make sure it's all untangled, so I don't have to fight it while it's on the tire. After that, grab the center rail, and the chain will fold up when you lift it. Throw it on the outside dual, and flip the top half onto the inner dual. Takes literally two minutes per set.Accidental Trucker and seagreg Thank this.
