I got a 720. I've dropped it on concrete and no major damage done at all. the only issue I have is the fact I haven't updated it in months so road speeds are wrong and there are a few roads that don't exist on the software but it does exactly as it's suppose to. I've already decided I'm not going to buy a need unit until this one quits working or Rand quits supporting the device, and I've known GPS units to last a very long time. I've met folks that still own one of the first GPS units that was the first to hit the shelves, and still work.

I know this thread is about the 710, but I am really interested in the new 520LM. Here are my questions. I have my iPhone unlocked so I can tether it to my phone for wifi, how much data will it use?? Is this something you only want to use for a short period of time to get the info you are looking for??? If so it would be very inconvenient for traffic. I also noticed you can buy something called premium traffic updates, what is that, and what does it cost? And how does it work. Last one, I hope the LM stands for life time map updates??
Thanks, never had a GPS before I guess I'm old school I use a map & MQ in my phone.

Right now the guessabmate is about 600mb/month running weather, 11 hr/day, 7 days/wk. This will depend on your useage of course. If an I-Phone 5, it seems like you will have to leave it on the Hotspot screen for a solid connection. If you go back to the main screen on the IP5, it will have some connection issues to the TND-520.

Traffic has not been set yet as to a solid price/yr.

I have to check on the "LM".

    Thanks,
    Mark

So we'd have to pay for the weather/traffic? Or is that just if you get that extra module thing?

520/720 will have internet traffic. Subscription based.

External traffic receiver will work, but with some slight issues.

    thanks,

Quality control on the software side or OS limitation?

Maybe if the McNally units had a processor faster than a pentium 2 and a capacitative touchscreen like my garmin 3790 it would put every other GPS unit to shame. Too bad Rand McNally and Garmin use Navteq's outdated maps from 5-10 years ago and only update POI every few months.

Out of curiosity. What would be a reasonable retail price in your mind for this "dream GPS" in your opinion?

    Thanks in advance.

I would say about $400. Looking back at my post I described possibly using an android tablet like the nexus 7.

Features of a TND-720 + usability of a garmin + hardware of an android 7inch tablet

Hey Mark Its the guy that met with you and your wife last year. How's that baby doing? Growing like a weed I bet. Last year you re did my 700 and its worked fine till a few weeks ago,Seems like the same thing, the plug wont stay well connected. wont charge when moving.I think the female recepticle might be loose inside. Anyway I think the tnd is the best trucker gps out there.
I had a major injury accident at a warehouse location just shortly after we met, and I dont get out your way anymore ,
I hope you and your family are doing well. see ya
