also don't forget... if they have done changes to the road... moved it... the map might not recognize it and show you as off rout. i've noticed this a few times when traveling through sections of single lanes that were converted to doubles ect. usually the next map update will correct it.

The 710 works great.DoneYourWay and Mark Kling Thank this. -
Absolutely amazing......from reading all the "rants" and complaints.... I have to wonder..... Have any of you ever purchased any other product that had issues??? Do you continue to buy the same product over and over...and over???? When something else fails do you guys jump on a wall, on which a support member happen to monitor and slam them and their product???... I suppose, using the logic that I found in these posts....the companies that you work for or haul for should replace you and NEVER use you again if you are ever late, show up with a damaged product, or walk funny......
No product is perfect, EVERYTHING has a certain number of manufacturing or usage defects.... few companies would ever stand behind their product as much as Rand McNally...please..multiple replacements to a consumer without being able to inspect mounting locations, security of mounting...or knowledge of possible consumer abuse.... ya...they go well beyond any typical manufacturer....find me 1, just 1 electronic item that is perfect...
Learn to read the manuals...learn how to mount a product so a to minimize movement and vibration....for heavens sake, these are mounted in trucks that are so far from a Cadillac ride that there's no
comparison...nothing but a lack of common sense is the body of the majority of the negative post that I've read..
(Yes, I actually CAN read...)
If you guys have so much time to rant, rave, complain, and b-tch...then you're not
driving enough...If only you guys put as much effort into your jobs, as you do about b-tching...crying...whining.....
I guess I can expect to hear a few of you beak off with regards to what I've said...so be it...I'll just have to get the baby wipes and a few diapers ready to ship out .....

Last week I was talking to the folks at Otter Box and asked if it would be possible to fabricate a special water/impact resistant case for the 710 because i like extra protection and mine is starting to look beat. Any chance Rand can follow up? Or are there any plans to produce a protective housing? -
They are in the Rand Store.

Alright after having owned the RM TND 510 and 710, the PC Miler 450, and the Cobra 5500 I feel I have earned my right to give my $.02.
PC Miler 450: The screen was tiny and hard to read, and I have perfect vision. After buying it and updating it out of the box I set it to my reciever 15 miles away. It tried routing me 25+ miles out of the way. Needless to say I wasn't impressed.
Cobra 5500: Again I wasn't overly impressed. Menus were hard and unfriendly to navigate, graphics were horrible (grainy), and it seemed overall a pain to mess with. One thing I did like was the high wreck areas.
Rand McNally TND 510: I owned three of these units. Menus were easy to navigate and user friendly to operate. The keyboard wasn't as responsive as I liked. Reliability seemed the biggest issue. Unit one lost the sound. Unit two and three wound up with a line of dead pixels running through the screen. Overall I liked them but I wouldn't buy another one.
Rand McNally TND 710: I must admit I have been highly impressed with this unit. The predictive traffic is amazing and mostly accurate. The screen is brilliant and the graphics are amazing. Very user friendly with a lot of features. The biggest gripe is inaccurate speed limits.
Other than that I am very pleased with this unit.

If you take 4 segments in a row and only segment 1 has a truck speed of 55 mph, but in segment 3 the speed is now increased to 65 (physically on the road), but segment 3 does not have this increase in its components the code now has to deal with missing data. How do you overcome the missing data and try to still be accurate? Rand has tried many ways to resolve this in the coding.
One of the settings you can change is to show car speeds if no truck speed is present. This should keep you the same as the physical road signs, but again it is not perfect.
The best way is to have the mapping database corrected, but Rand does not own the maps. We use NavTeq Maps with licensing agreements.
VA changed their speed limit after the Maps passed in QA. So what to do? We know they are off now and are corrected in the next release of Maps.
Maps are not perfect in all details, but Rand is aware of speed limit issues and is working in the code to come up with a better solution.
Thanks,
Mark
