Rand is competitively priced with the other truck navigation devices.

Rand has a support Thread here to assist drivers in their issues or concerns. This is no means a reflection of the overall customer satisfaction/dis-satisfaction.

As with any business customers will normally post more negative’s than positive’s.

    Thanks,
    Mark

i don't know about the US but in Canada there are a few places(and growing) where it is illegal to use a "non truck specific" gps. the Garmen truck gps is about the same price as the rest. given the choice i'll take the one with a screen big enough to see. i've had my 710 for several months now. so far all is good. it has locked up a few times but so has every other gps i've ever owned. once the temp memory fills up they need a reset. as far as odd routing... they all do that as well. i do think that rand is possibly a little more delicate than the rest so you need to take that into consideration when mounting it and take extra measures to protect it. that being said it exceeds the capabilities of every other unit out there so it's worth the extra effort to protect it. the unit has messed me up good exactly three times. i lost count of how many times i've praised it... to the point that i've named the stupid thing.

I am in the process of returning my 5th 710 since Dec 29th 2011. I've had the sound go bad, lock up, not charge, and not connect to PC to download info. By the way they stopped makeing this unit. They tell me it is impossible to get money back. I guess word of mouth is the best advertisement. I'm switching to garmin.

Certain 64bit/win 7 machines may not allow the "handshaking" to work between the TND and the computer. This is due to many factors, one is which more recent laptops are more energy aware and do not give full power to the USB ports. If you are not in full power mode this can happen.

Lock up and not charging would be related more to the DC cord not providing a good connection.

Where have you seen that the 710 is no longer made?

But, in the end Rand has replaced each unit for you on an RMA.

    Thanks,
    Mark

I am just about to buy a 710 and just want to confirm that the lifetime maps and traffic are a separate purchase. Is that correct? Also, if I buy the unit and then another generation comes out in a year or two, will the maps and traffic transfer over to the new unit? Thanks.

LTM's will come across the New Dock. I will have to verify that if you buy the maps for one version and register that model on the Dock and purchase another model, will the Dock allow the transfer of newer maps as they are released.

The traffic receiver is transferrable between the current model and future models at this point in time. Meaning, Rand has no plans to drop the traffic receiver as an accessory.

    Thanks,
    Mark

LTM is set by serial number, so therefore not transferable between models.

Why is that rand seems to have an unlimited supply of refurbished units that they sell on their web site?

    I've had a 510 for over a year.
Aside from a few quirks, like the speed limit issue, I'm very happy with it.

I did have a charging problem with it about 3 months in.
I noticed the connector was a little loose, so I squished it just a bit to make it tighter. Problem solved.

    As to the OP, well...

If I had to replace the same GPS for the same problem over and over again, I would have stopped at twice.
After that, I would have found a different model or brand.

But I guess some people are just gluttons for punishment, or simply never learn.

Also, the odds that the same person could have the same problem with so many units of the same GPS when so many others don't - and still buys that same GPS - simply does not ring true to me.
