Does anyone experience issues with these units? Had a 700 series which crapped out on me ended up throwing it in a moment of frustration with it, then purchased the TND 540 to replace it, worked well, besides shutting off sometimes on its own. I really only use it to track fuel and ifta miles and for speed. Last week went out to the truck and the darn screen was pushed out from the corner and it looks like what would be the ink pouch exploded or expanded causing the screen to push out. Called tech, said it’s under warranty, and that I can get my miles for 1st quarter 2020 out if I plug it into my lap top. Well only issue is I can’t see the screen on the GPS will only flash the logo in the beginning then cut out. Can anyone help me out with this? Should I try a Garmin, do they track Miles and can I input fuel like the Rand McNally? Thanks in advance.

I have a Rand 740, I love it. First one crapped out on me mid trip, bought another one and it's doing fine, I keep it updated and no issues. As for the first one I called Rand customer service, they walked me through the reboot process and it came back to life. I sold it afterwards.

Yeah I agree, the only fool proof way to do it, I went this route because it seemed easier, which when it works properly it is. Can’t beat using a pad and pen though

Thanks, I took this inside today and I actually got it to work. No clue how, I was able to get miles and gallons out though.

I’ve had really good luck, so far, with RM... bought an RM730 in ‘15 and replaced it with the RM740 in ‘19... they both acted up a few times but a good old Off/On would do the trick.

now watch, after offering up such high praise, it will crap out tomorrow... lol

The one thing I will criticize RM for is this issue of getting data out or updating remotely... one of the reasons I updated to the 740 was because it had wifi capability... which RM is totally missing the boat on... this thing will connect to wifi but they really don’t use is to its fullness... true one can get weather (a temp map? Really?) and traffic (very cluttered view) and a few other basics...

But honestly, where is a good sky view of my destination??? How about updating my addresses from an App and sync back and forth...

Or can they export or back up usable data without hardwiring it to a computer???

it gets me from point A to point B ok when OTR but an intra-City trip is not very efficient.

If all you want to use it for is helping file IFTA, look at one of the smaller screen Deal Garmin units. They are not expensive and will do what your looking for. You can export the info in a format for excel.

Check EBay and amazon for a non current model. Should save a few bucks that way.

I've got my fingers crossed as well. I bought a RM740 in 2017 and have not had trouble with it yet. After reading the thread here I started putting a sun-shield over mine that's mounted to the windshield and I have cold defrost air routed under the sun-shield to keep it cool. I sure would like to have the internal battery replaced by a capacitor since it is plugged in all day when I use it. I power it down and disconnect it from the power cord when I sleep. No since r*ping the battery 24/7
