The border warning is set for 5 miles and I believe the weigh station warning is set for 10 miles. I'll have to go and recheck it to be sure though.

Toomey, LA is the scale location, 1 mile east of the TX/LA border

You should have gotten 9 miles before the border a weigh station warning.
I forwarded this to RM and the scales are valid.
Thanks for the info.

Purchased the unit last week. Ran Ohio to Savannah.
CONS:
It wished to route me via I-40 to I-26. I-40 is currently closed due to the rock slide last month.
I wished it to route via Atlanta. I could find no way to force the route, so I simply routed to Atlanta, then a second route on to Savannah.
The scales at Corbin, Ky do not show. I reported it to Rand.
Filters are a good thing for the POI's, but they do not save. (A switichable option to "always apply my filters"?)
I "think" I read back there somewhere that when inside a city, the unit reverts to "car" mode. That really sucked in Savanah as it tried repeatedly to route me down Liberty Street, which I did not wish to be on. An option, "go via" with a click on the screen would be nice.
PROS:
I was pleasantly surprised as the unit went to ###### near street level view at confusing intersections and showed lane usage for interstate connections.
1 mile from those interstate connections it gave an alert, and .05 mile away it went to the ground level. It showed a clear path through the maze, and the "overhead" sign indicating what my desired action was to be.
Threading the maze at the junction of I-75, both north and south, in Atlanta was all illustrated.
When I used exit 11 in Wiliamsburg, Ky for the Pilot, it flashed a very visible warning this roadway was not load rated for my truck. No other action was taken, just a warning for me to use and decide if I needed to be there.
I have not found the "logging" features to be of any particular use to me. Though I did "play" with them.
I also have onboard DeLorme 2007, (which I actually prefer for the open road). And ProMilesXT, which is better for multi stops. But they require the laptop to be on, and working. The TND-500 will eliminate the need for the laptop being active.
I am pleased with this Unit, and will look forward to improvements.
SUGGESTIONS:
Allow the POI icons to show on "expanded" views ... I would really like to know, "Is there a rest area, truckstop, scale, etc a few more miles down the road?" (Yes, I know I can toggle, and add it to the display, from the POI screen, but why should I have too?)

I-40 is not considered contruction,, Mother Nature -... if you open the turn-by-turn list you will see your routing. click on the segment you wish to look at or detour.. once you click on it, the map will go to that part of your route. on the top in green is a "detour" button. click on it and it will detour around the segement you have highlighted.
Filters was found to have a bug in version 1443, has been corrected and will be in next released version, hopefully within 2 weeks.
The TND will stay in truck mode unless you change it. If it tried to route you down a "non-truck" road, then RM needs to know, so they can research and correct the map data.
"When I used exit 11 in Wiliamsburg, Ky for the Pilot, it flashed a very visible warning this roadway was not load rated for my truck. No other action was taken, just a warning for me to use and decide if I needed to be there." - bad truck attributes... will send to RM to research.
State logging miles is mainly for O/O's
Thanks for the input,

I had no complaints about Rand not knowing about the detour on I-40, I simply stated I knew it was there, and preferred not to go that way. Instead of telling TND what I DO NOT want to do, (go throught gorge), how about telling it what DO WANT to do, (go via Atlanta).
There was no issue with exit 11 in Corbin, the program did what it was supposed to do, it warned me I had exited on a load restricted road. Good information.
I told Rand about Liberty Street in Savannah, unlike some, I will fully utilize the "Tell Rand" option.
And I have been an O/O since 1985 ... (thats the last century! ) Still, the logging is of little value to me ... just a neat toy to play with.

You really should be able to use waypoints to pin the route where you want it. Just have them expire as you pass them without having to manually clear them like stops. That'd solve the recalculating problem too as it'd only have to recalculate to the next set waypoint.

Something I discovered about the TND and POIs.
Try this on your unit and see what results you get. It seems to do the same thing if you are in a route or just running down the road.
Go to the POI screen and pick just about any type.
Choose my truck or on route depending on what you are doing.
Don't choose any locations from the list, just run on down the road as you would do.
Check the list now and then to see what it is doing.
The unit does not update the list as you travel. It seems to take the location that you pressed the button at as its reference point. As you travel along and reach or pass these locations, the listings stay static. It does not reorder them as to distance or delete the passed locations and update with new locations ahead of you.
The Garmin unit I have, and run along side the TND does do this. This is a feature of the Garmin I like. Some times you can't get to a POI, like a store or restaurant with the truck.
