RM doesn't write all of the software that you get on one of their GPS devices. They license software and data sets from other companies. Look at all those credits that appear during startup. Also, they would never be able to get anywhere near as much money for a mere software app for your phone as they do for one of their proprietary GPS devices. The marginal cost to RM for each of those devices is only a few dollars and they sell them for hundreds. They won't give up those sales as long as people are still buying.

Rand McNalley is currently owned by a private equity firm. They do almost nothing, as almost everything is contracted to third party companies.

Hey guys I just got a TND750 and right out of the box it can't update the OS. It says it is trying to download "OS update to build 151". The file is 339.8mb I have downloaded it probably 30 times but it won't install for whatever reason. I did a factory reset. I did the gps file repairs. I am on good Internet. What gives? How can I get this thing to move forward?

Hey guys I am back. As stated before I have the tnd750. Is it possible to let the gps know some roads I like are safe for big trucks? Some of the county highways I drive it seems to think aren't good for big rigs. I know I can add stuff I want to avoid but can I can stuff that I know is fine and it doesn't need to avoid? Thanks.

That would be a great option. Or an easy way to report that sections in towns are good roads.

I see a number of roads I drive in cities that used to be just fine on the 740 but now the 750 avoids like a single block like it’s an old dirt road in the middle of town or might have been closed for construction at some point and the new database hasn’t been updated that it’s complete.

As to roads in general, I think they have a standard of which roads are designed for trucks and which are not. I can’t remember what Class of roads are called but I remember this debate from several years ago.

But individually flagging roads as ones “I want to use” even if not technically designed might be a good option. But they probably won’t do it for liability issues. (RM said it was safe and legal so I drove off a cliff)

Maybe slip into car mode? I never use it and not sure where that switch even is hidden.

Yeah I figured since I couldn't find it the option didn't exist. Like you said it is probably a liability issue. I actually just figured out where the issue happens on the road I take. One tiny town. There is a 10ft stretch of road that has been identified as 80k trucks would be over weight. In reality it doesn't exist. In the future I can just add the town as a stop if it bothers me. I really like the interface of the gps and I love the mileage/fuel tracking which is why I bought it to begin with. All in all I am happy. If anyone is looking at getting one I recommend getting a refurbished unit. Mine was $150 bucks. Looks brand new and functions like brand new. Thanks again.

Or decrease your weight to under the set limit for that town.

Been a minute since I posted here and have one of the older units I'm thinking the RM750 cause the 750 units on their site look nothing like mine(guessing it's all tablets now) anyway, did they completely stop support for the older devices? Used to I could hook up to wifi, get an email thanking me for any tell rand map corrections and update. The emails stopped but I could still update. Now it won't even install the latest driver connect update version 6.6.9. Keep getting install failed. Any suggestions, other than chunk it, cause it still routes me fine and I'm considering giving this one to wife for her car and buying me a newer model.
